My Judges Tower list.

If you haven't heard of this before it's a lesser know format where we all revel in each other's shame and become more precise players in the process.

If I succeeded at my goal, games with this deck will feel like games of Fluxx played with magic cards. In 400 cards you'll find a lot of complicated cards, a few simple ones, and even some pet cards. The simple cards include things like Hana Kami that have pretty art and an effect that is easy to overlook, cards like Sign in Blood to play politics with, and more removal than you might expect. My thinking is that a simple card can still cause complexity if the way it plays changes based on the board. Obviously there is going to be a lot of card draw, so expect a mix of drawing for yourself or your opponent or both. I've stayed away from large ground creatures as well as the ability to discard individual cards as much as possible. I like how the games play without them. Also, as you might expect I have completely avoided deck searching.

The Judges Tower format is amazing and I encourage you to play it. There are many subtly different sets of rules so here are the rules we use: (forgive the formatting)

1 If you break a rule you lose. This includes the MTG rules and all these Judges Tower rules.

2 You cannot lose except due to rule 1 or card effects and you cannot win.

2a Optional Rule: If a player would lose they instead earn a Shame and play continues as normal. The game ends when the total Shame among all players reaches an agreed upon total. (This can vary game to game based on number, skill, and stamina of players)

2b Optional Rule: When a player earns a shame, put the card responsible (use best judgement), if any, into the absolutely-removed-from-the-freaking-game-forever zone.

3 Nothing is optional. If you have the ability to take an action you must take that action before passing priority. If an effect says you "may" do something you must do it.

3a You may not play the same card more than once each turn.

3b You may not activate each ability of a card more than once each turn. (Even if the card leaves play and comes back in the same turn)

4 If a card has multiple activated abilities you must attempt to activate them from bottom to top, skipping any ability you are unable to activate. This does not apply to Loyalty abilities.

4a Text gained is considered added to the bottom of the text box in timestamp order.

5 All players share a common library and a common graveyard. There are a lot of subtle implications of this, so don't assume this is a complete list.

5a Resolve simultaneous interactions with the library/graveyard in clockwise order starting with the active player.

5b A card's owner is the player who most recently removed it from the library.

5c If an effect would have you reveal a card from the library that another player is already revealing, except due to a continuous effect, you instead reveal the next unrevealed card in the library. (For example, Selvala, Explorer Returned reveals the top card for the active player, then the next card down for the next player, etc. regardless of the presence of Future Sight )

6 You have unlimited mana of every color, but not every type, at all times.

6a If you have to choose a number, choose the highest number possible. If that number would be infinite, choose 5 instead.

7 Your starting hand is one card and you may not take a mulligan.

7a Optional Rule: You start with infinite life.

7b Optional Rule: To play consecutive games without having to shuffle, when one game ends put all cards in play, in the graveyard, in players' hands, and in exile into the absolutely-removed-from-the-freaking-game-forever zone and then begin a new game.

8 Have fun!

8a Since there are probably no impartial judges present it is in your best interest to keep your fellow players happy ;)
