You stumble blindly through the Kessig woods, pain shooting through your left leg with every step. Every howl you hear makes you drop to the ground, wondering if it's just a wolf or something ... else. In the distance, you see the twinkling lights of a small village in a clearing in the distance. You make a break for it, branches whipping against your face as you attempt to outrun the (possibly) imagined beasts behind you. You finally make it into town and bang on the first door you come to, which is opened by a kindly old man. He invites you in for the night and you enter his home relieved, failing to notice the bestial glint in his eyes as he closes and locks the door behind you.

Is red-green stompy too slow for you? Were you on Team Jacob? Do you love unsleeving and resleeving your cards every upkeep? If you answered yes to any of these questions, an EDH Werewolf Deck might be right for you!

Some general tips for piloting this deck:

  1. Tovolar functions in this deck as card draw, a way to buff werewolves, and (most importantly), a way to ensure your werewolves stay transformed. As such, protecting him is of the utmost importance. Don't be afraid to keep him squirreled away in your command zone until he's necessary.

  2. When playing cards that want you to name a creature type (ie. Realmwalker), there are enough non-werewolf humans that you'll probably want to name human instead of werewolf. Remember, on the stack, all of your werewolves are humans too.

  3. This deck either wins through go-wide buff spells (Craterhoof Behemoth or Overwhelming Stampede) or abuse of extra combat steps (Breath of Fury or Relentless Assault). As such, you want to pick off your opponents early, before they get a board to match yours or draw a wrath.

  4. There is a combo in this deck. Using Tovolar's Packleader   or Kessig Cagebreakers and a haste enabler (ie Fires of Yavimaya or Village Reavers  ), you can bounce Breath of Fury between new wolf tokens for infinite combat phases.

All in all, this deck is a surprisinly cheap and fun way to play with one of the most undervalued tribes in Magic: The Gathering. Any feedback is welcome. Happy Hunting!

Updates Add

Now that we have the full Crimson Vow set spoilers, I added a couple of the more interesting werewolves from the set. Has yet to be playtested, so still preliminary. Advice welcome!
