Commander / EDH Cycling Eldrazi

Sideboard

This is an EDH deck based on the sci-fi novel To Sleep in a Sea of Stars by Christopher Paolini. Breya, the commander, is the main character Kira Navarez. She discovers an ancient artifact called the Soft Blade, a powerful weapon with incredible capabilities. Alongside the crew of the Wallfish, Kira uses the Soft Blade to help fight against the Wranaui, an alien race of sea-creatures. In the deck, the crew are represented by planeswalkers: Lukka = Capt. Falconi Teferi = Vishal Elspeth = Nielsen Kaya = Sparrow Nahiri = Hwa-jung Karn = Gregorovich Rowan and Will Kenrith = the 2 Entropists Jorrus and Veera The ruler of the Wranaui is a massive creature named Ctein, represented by Emrakul. Additionally, an ever-growing Maw is consuming the galaxy, represented by both Ulamogs. In the book, the Maw is created by the combined mind of one human and one Wranaui. Each Ulamog represents one of those minds. Kira and her companions uncover a dangerous creature called a Seeker, represented by Memnarch. The final creature is Eldrazi Displacer, which represents a character that appears briefly, a combination human and Wranaui created by the Maw. The various polymorph effects represent the ever changing nature of the Soft Blade and its connection to the Maw. Pieces of the Soft Blade create the Maw, so sacrificing Kira/Breya's thopters to Polymorph into Ulamog mechanically demonstrates this plotline. Since this book contains lots of long-distance space travel, the deck relies on Astral Drift, Astral Slide, and Escape Protocol to demonstrate this idea. All of the cycling cards can be used with these 3 payoffs to blink Kira/Breya as she travels around the galaxy. There are additional small flavor selections: Proteus Staff = the Staff of Blue, an ancient alien weapon Heart of Kiran = The Wallfish, able to be crewed by any of the crew members There are definitely more, and if I have time will add to this list.

This deck was a ton of fun to build, and is also a ton of fun to play. Enjoy the book and deck!
