Render unto Markov

In an effort to diversify my deck portfolio, I have once again constructed a Mardu Deck (Bold, daring I know). But since starting my interest in commander I was frequently drawn to Edgar Markov.

It doesn't take much to notice Big Papa's strengths. His Eminence is significantly stronger than the other commanders who run it. Being able to cheese out a ton of vampires and quickly will have you go in a more aggressive direction.

Especially when you read the rest of his card. First strike and haste will cause people to have a double-take, and then ponder if they want to block or not. Plus something I didn't know when I first started building the deck, the +1/+1 counters are also for him. So turn Six you can come out swinging and give people the beatdown.

We want to pump out as many vampires as we are capable of and flicking damage where possible and be heralds for our dark lord's arrival. Then using supporting anthems, pump up our board and then keep smacking until submission.
  • Deathtouch: We have an alarming amount of creatures with deathtouch available. One of my all-time favorite creatures is Pitiless Pontiff a 2/2 for isn't scary, but for just more with a sacrifice, she becomes indestructible and has death touch. So you can swing aggressively and people will have to guess if they feel lucky today. To the same vein, Knight of the Ebon Legion has a similar function, but he grows exponentially and doesn't require a sacrifice. Vampire Nighthawk is a flying deathtouch lifelink vampire. Should there be any dragons or a hasty commander that flies, its good protection.

  • Flicking Damage: The best way to deal out damage, is to flick it at them so they cant block it. Blood Artist, Crimson Honor Guard, & Cruel Celebrant all have ways of flicking damage to your opponents outside of combat. Easy to circumvent a defensive player, or to maintain your own defenses.

  • Supports: These vampires specialize on supporting the board by anthem abilities or assigning +1/+1 counters. Cordial Vampire, Captivating Vampire, Legion Lieutenant and Stromkirk Captainall buff our creatures univsesally as all of our creatures are exclusivly vampires.

  • Utility Options: Vampires such as Dark Impostor offer targeted removal, and if able to stay alive repeatable. Olivia Voldaren can snatch opponets creatures (which are now vampires.)

- **Sorin Markov** is such a nasty card. At a 2.0 salt scale, its easy to just make somone no longer a problem. When he hits the board, a target players life becomes 10. Then to add insult to injury, you can follow up with Sorin's Vengeance and just end somones career. - **Sorin, Vengeful Bloodlord** on your turn, creatures and plainswalkers (including this Sorin) life-link. The reanimation effect is just icing on the cake. - **Sorin, Lord of Innistrad** More vampires, a sweet sweet emblem, and targeted removal/ theft. This one is a spicy one.
