Rebuilding This! —Oct. 9, 2019

This deck is being rebuilt and updated.

HOWEVER. Someone stole my Force of Will, and I don't have the budget to re-buy it right now. So we may have to use Foil in that slot instead for a while.

Nice Wincon in Runechanter's Pike and Blighted Agent. Pretty neat idea, having good attacks is finally blue's thing again (yey)!

Good looking list. Definitely some great ideas if I ever un-budgetize my list.

Tetsuko $50

You could go with a turns deck, run a couple of the cards that draw when they do combat damage and cards that let you take extra turns. Rinse and repeat until your foe is dead.

Howdy! You reached out on my rough Tetsuko list, to exchange suggestions and the like. I'd love to sit down and chat about making Tetsuko semi-playable! I added you, send me a message whenever!

Additionally, your list has significantly more effort put into its documentation/presentation, so kudos for that.

Blade of Selves seem like it will work in that deck

Since you helped me on my deck I thought I'd repay the favor,

First off, I don't know how you feel about looting affects, but Cephalid Coliseum is a pretty land, it pings you but it also doesn't come in tapped (along with its ability of course makes it an okay land).

Now onto the deck itself, since you have a relatively low CMC, your deck might benefit from a Land Equilibrium, Italian copies go for $30-40. Another useful enchantment could be Corrupted Conscience, a bit high in CMC but taken a threat and giving it infect in a 1v1 game could shift the tides.

I also think that taking turns could be extremely powerful for you, mid to late game, you could kill your opponent within those two turns, especially if you had a Bident of Thassa in play for an almost assured victory.

I hope at least one of my suggestions helps! Have a good day my friend~

Oh and I don't think you have a good way to protect your commander, I think you could use a Darksteel Plate/Swiftfoot Boots

So it turns out the creatures you have are pretty much the best you can find unless you're willing to go up to 3 cmc for those looter effects. However I believe you'll find either Lullmage Mentor or Orochi Hatchery to be far more effective than your Sharding Sphinx. I am hesitant to suggest the mentor given your relatively low merfolk count, and you don't run entirely counterspells either, but he fits extremely well into your idea of an oppressive blue aggro deck. Meekstone I would argue fits as well, but I wouldn't know where to cut for that.

Also, what do you think of a more casual aggro tokens variant of Tetsuko? Could it get away with Mightstone effects and probably with an artifacts subtheme?

My semester is finally over, so I finally have time to answer the ridiculous backlog of comments on this deck!

IAmTheWraith: Thanks! Ironically I removed that synergy, but I can (and have) pulled it off with Inkmoth Nexus, hehe. Nobody expects getting 1-hit by a land in mono-blue EDH!

TheBrodysseus: I'll take a look!

Teysaforever: Honestly, I considered it, but while it would have been fun that's more of Edric's shtick. I'm playing more of a control game than a creature-combo-ish list (I have enough of those already lol).

I'll continue answering comments after lunch :)

I feel like Thopter Spy Network has a lot of potential in here. It's essentially a slightly worse Bident of Thassa that produces more 1/1 creatures every turn.

KzarKnuckle: Thanks, man! I've finally finished my semester, so I'm free to talk about it whenever :) also, any thoughts on the new primer as a fellow Tetsuko player?

n0bunga: I looked into it, but unfortunately it pumps both power and toughness and leaves my creatures blockable :(

gdm1989: Ooh. That could be interesting! Darn, now I need to find space...

Chiberia: Thanks for the comment!! I wish I owned a copy of Land Equilibrium, haha - I want this deck to be all english, but if I can get an english copy I will need to find space! I am avoiding turns effects currently, but I may reconsider in the near future :) I don't see much removal targeted at my commander, normally, since her ability is only a helper effect, but if that does become a problem I may take you up on the protection suggestions.

SobekisaRedGod: It makes my commander a 3/3 and thus blockable. Plus, shroud keeps me from targeting my own creature, alas.

TheRedGoat: Oh, Meekstone! How did I forget that?!? Darn, now I need a copy. Beyond that, Sharding Sphinx doubles my creature count each turn, so it's faster than the other options. It's a fun finisher in the deck, so I'm hesitant to cut it.

DangoDaikazoku: Thanks for the comment! I'm worried, though, because it only draws me 1 card per turn, and only makes artifact creatures if I already control an artifact, of which I only play 13...If it said "whenever an artifact creature deals damage" rather than "one or more", I'd play it in a heartbeat.

Hi there! First of all, suuuper evil deck you have there. Here are some suggestions that may or may not be good :)

Chasm Skulker - Yes this will instantly be out of Tetsuko range once you draw a card, but you are drawing so many cards that I feel you could build this guy up to be massive quite quickly. Plus when it dies, you get a bunch of unblockables.

Thassa, God of the Sea - Just another way to give something unblockable that is also a win-con herself.

Captain's Claws for more unblockable dudes/dudets!

Plague Myr and Blighted Agent could give you more infect options

Faerie Conclave is another land you can animate

Personally, I would play Disallow over Arcane Denial or Stifle as I feel it is more flexible and I don't like letting my opponents draw cards.

Gigantoplasm - might be a fun way to copy a creature with an awesome ability and still retain the option to be unblockable. Volrath's Shapeshifter or Warkite Marauder could also be fun ways to mess with P/T.

Cloak and Dagger would also be my first suggestion, other than that: Nice, +1!

I'm going to echo the other guy and suggest dowsing dagger. If it's in your opening hand you should be able to get it out and at someone's life total pretty quick. Of course I play my Tetsuko deck as a multiplayer deck so I've found it useful plus I have creature that don't rely on the commander for unblockable.

Why not use The Mirari Conjecture and Chisei, Heart of Oceans to return instants and sorcery? Throw in an additional turn spell and go infinite.

Otherwise a fun blue deck.

Daedalus19876 do you know about or have you given any thought to adding Saprazzan Heir and Riptide Entrancer?

May 15, 2018 5:55 p.m.

Crivaro says... #20

Isn't Saprazzan Heir more a of a nonbo? Am I missing something?

May 15, 2018 6:07 p.m.

LuxCannonator says... #21

Crivaro with Tetsuko yeah. But if she's equiped up, no. Or if Tetsuko is Imprisoned or not in play. In my opinion shes a win/win. If she can be blocked great, draw 3. If she cant it still serves a purpose with Jitte. I will admit though, I'm a little partial to The Heir as she was one of the first Rares I ever pulled.

If you want to have another silver bullet card, Sorcerous Spyglass is a version of Phyrexian Revoker that allows you to see your opponents hand! Excellent against commanders like Experiment Kraj and Mairsil, the Pretender

Crivaro says... #23

Just thought of something: I'd play Bubble Matrix. Your stuff is unblockable, but if you have to block, your 1 toughness creatures will all survive.

May 17, 2018 5:02 p.m.

I know you said this deck is optimized for 1v1 play, but how has your experience been playing it in a multiplayer pod of 3-4 players? When I play commander, it is always in a 3 or 4 player group. How does it hold up in a group? Are there any changes you would make that would optimize its multiplayer capabilities (if at the expense of the 1v1 prowess it has?)

May 17, 2018 11:02 p.m.

I also thought of a fun card you might want to consider: Fatespinner. Seems like it has the potential to yield some great results. It might not be as strong against non-aggro decks who don't care about attacking, since the loss of combat step wouldn't really hurt them, but I think it is a card I'll try out in my builds.
