I wanted to build a tribal list out of my favorite mythical creature: Phoenixes (Phoenixs? Phoenicians?).

Well, there is not a lot of tribal Phoenix support. That is to say: none. While going American to try and incorporate flying creature synergy was an idea, the deck needed ramp because nearly every Phoenix is 5 cost and higher. So we're going mono-red to at least avoid mana screw.

So we have a terrible idea executed badly. The majority of your creatures are bad on their own, and the ones that aren't don't have the cards to make them good. If your anthems get nuked, you're gonna be in a bad place. Honestly your entire victory strategy is to be as non-threatening as possible before trying to squeak out a win at the end. The other option is to throw down the anthems and pray you get home and delete your browser history before getting curb stomped into oblivion.

Get ready for highly situational and overcosted draw spells, vanilla 4/4 flyers, shockingly awful board wipes, and absolutely no backup plan with a commander that synergizes with your creatures as well as he synergizes with your cousin's Bar Mitzvah. Someday, Dr. Garfield willing, this deck will get a commander that makes the deck function. Until then, you're playing this for flavor.

But I wouldn't have it any other way.

UPDATE: Well, the miracle has finally descended from Wizards R&D department. Now we have a real fighting chance with black added to our color pie. Time to fire it up with sacrifice tricks to try and make the deck flow.
