Before there was Kykar, Wind's Fury there was a woman named Narset, Enlightened Master . While she tried to be a good friend, she ended up becoming very powerful and would ramble on for a long time while her friends watched her, glossy-eyed. In an attempt to not lose her friends, she looked inward and was reborn as Kykar, Wind's Fury . Alright, maybe that isn't exactly how the lore went, but it's a fair allegory for what my old Narset, Enlightened Master list did to my playgroup. Anyway, welcome to Kykar, Wind's Fury EDH. This is a token-focused list that I formed after breaking down an old list (Free Spells Are Fun (Narset, Enlightened Master)).

This deck wants to cast non-creature spells to generate tokens that will eventually kill your opponents. Kykar, Wind's Fury alongside the other token generators in the deck can generate a large quantity of creatures in a relatively short amount of time. In addition, the spirit tokens generated by Kykar can be used as mana to cast additional spells when needed.

You will like this deck if:

  • You enjoy casting a large number of non-creature spells each game.

  • You want to have a large number of creatures under your control.

  • You like addition.

You will not like this deck if:

  • You'd prefer to cast creature spells that are high-impact threats all on their own.

  • You don't want to manage potentially large numbers of creature tokens.

  • Math is not your favorite subject.

Token generators:

  • Kykar, Wind's Fury is obviously your most frequently used token generator. He generates tokens off of any type of non-creature spell, and while in play provides additional mana if needed.

  • Talrand, Sky Summoner , Docent of Perfection  , and Young Pyromancer are the limited token generators in the list. These cards all only create tokens when casting instants or sorceries, making them slightly lower impact than other token generators in the list. There are a large quantity of instants and sorceries in the deck though, so don't discount these creatures.

  • Saheeli, Sublime Artificer , Shark Typhoon , and Monastery Mentor are the premium token generators of the list, as they will create tokens when casting ANY non-creature spell. Unlike in smaller deck constructed formats, Shark Typhoon can perform very well as a six mana enchantment in this deck, and I would attempt to hold onto it as best as you can, leaving the cycling ability as almost a last resort.

  • Assemble the Legion and Elspeth, Sun's Champion are the slow token generators of the list. They only provide a few tokens each turn cycle, but if given the space needed to grow they can become overwhelming. The emblem from Elspeth, should it be feasible to reach it, drastically powers up your board, and if Assemble the Legion can survive for a little while it can produce a sizable number of tokens for no further input.

As always, suggestions are helpful for refining decks. It is most helpful if you can suggest a card to cut for each recommended card, and perhaps a reason why you think your suggestion is better than the removed card. Finally, don't forget to hit that +1 if you liked the deck!
