Post-2HG EDH tournament —Oct. 16, 2017

Okay, so I got the chance to play this deck in a 2-headed giant edh tournament (my partner was running an Avacyn, Angel of Hope deck that was pretty fun to partner with--all of the clone effects in our deck were very happy to see a giant indestructible flying thing to clone. Ended up winning the losers bracket, so that's not too shabby for a deck that's designed to be fun and not competitive.

That said, Ixalan is out now, and with that come some decklist changes, as are listed below:

-1 Sphinx of the Final Word, +1 Taigam, Ojutai Master I'm trying this swap to see if shaving off 3 mana from the cost is worth losing its own can't be countered clause and hexproof. The rebound will probably never be relevant in our deck, but it's cool to have extra card text, I guess.

-1 Karmic Guide +1 Growing Rites of Itlimoc  Flip Gaea's Cradle in a deck that's supposed to spit out absurd numbers of tokens? Yes, please! Karmic Guide was nice to drop the creature directly into play, but too often that just wasn't relevant enough with Ravos, Soultender, so it got cut.

-1 Shefet Monitor +1 Lotus Cobra Technically, this enables an infinite combo if we get enough Lotus Cobras in play and populate our Dryad Arbor. That makes me a little sad, but being able to get mana back after using Thrasios, Triton Hero's ability is too good to pass up.

-1 Archfiend of Ifnir +1 Amulet of Vigor With Shefet monitor leaving, this guy had very little purpose being in the deck. Cut for the amulet, which refunds mana on Thrasios, and makes our 4-color mana base more palatable.

-1 Tamiyo's Journal +1 Hostage Taker The journal never survived long enough to use as a tutor, so it was cut for Hostage Taker, which is hilarious to populate, and serves as great control/an actual win con in the form of removing our opponent's win condition

-1 Stolen Identity +1 Sower of Temptation The deck needed more answers to creatures, so Sower came in in place of the rather-redundant Stolen Identity.

-1 Swords to Plowshares +1 Beast Within This change was admittedly made purely because the tournament was using unified decklist rules, so I couldn't have Swords or Sol Ring in my list. It will probably be undone at a later update, once I figure out what to take out in place of it.

-1 Sol Ring +1 Guile Again, a change made for the decklist rules, probably will be undone soon; I just have to make sure that Guile is the card I want to cut.

-1 Skullwinder ????? Eternal Witness ?????? Conqueror's Galleon  Flip Obviously, Skullwinder loses its political edge in a 2 headed giant format, so it was swapped out for the Witness. I then pulled the Galleon in the prize pack. Eternal Witness is in right now, so the list reflects that, but I'm still playing around with balancing the politics/deathtouch of skullwinder versus the 2 green/only good for chump blocking of witness versus the slow to set up but repeatability of the Conqueror's Foothold  Flip.

-1 Winged Coatl +1 Venser, Shaper Savant While being able to surprise opponents with the impromptu Murder that Winged Coatl was, Venser is more flexible and carries the wonderful wizard typing so that Voidmage Prodigy can sacrifice him to counter a spell and get venser to the graveyard to be returned to our hand at the next upkeep.

-1 Sundering Growth +1 Manglehorn Ravos can recur manglehorn, and it forces opponents' artifacts to enter tapped, which slows down a lot of decks. I think that makes up for missing enchantments (which Ethersworn Adjudicator, Beast Within, Venser, and Cyclonic Rift all cover) and being sorcery speed unless we have Vedalken Orrery or Alchemist's Refuge.

-1 Endless Sands +1 Path of Ancestry Underwhelming colorless land is swapped for 4 color land that scrys on 4 different creature types. Seems pretty good!

Acquireboard added.

Hehe. This is cute, and I mean that as a sincere compliment. It's not often that I giggle uncontrollably when looking at a deck description.

You might be able to tighten up the list a bit, though. You can probably cut Shefet Monitor and the Deserts from your land base. Speaking of lands, you can cut 3 or so and still be within a safe range :) This would open up space for Swords to Plowshares, Beast Within, and Constant Mists. No use shooting high if you won't survive long enough to pull off the mega-combo! ;)

City of Brass/Mana Confluence/Forbidden Orchard/Exotic Orchard/Reflecting Pool will help you have your mana when you need it :)

I would also highly recommend playing Mana Reflection somewhere in this list. I am aware of its $$$ cost, yes. But when you have multiple copies of it, they stack exponentially rather than linearly, and I think you can push that 617 digit number even further into the stratosphere very, very fast.

Happy deckbuilding! :)
