First Major Updates —July 4, 2017

In the interests of tightening the deck's focus, I've made some major changes:

OUT: Tandem Lookout, Mind Stone, Whirlpool Drake, Blue Sun's Zenith, Commit / Memory, Gamble, and Tidings.

IN: Descent of the Dragons, Forgotten Creation, Neheb, the Eternal, Force of Will, Magus of the Wheel, Commander's Sphere, Chaos Warp.

Particular thanks to Lythia, who's helped me tune and improve this deck significantly! You should check out her lists when you have a chance :)

How do you feel for cheap or free counters like Pact of Negation, Remand, Counterspell or Force of Will to get the commander to hit the board?

jonfehl: Probably not; I don't have enough rituals to actually CAST the things after I pay for Past in Flames...Mizzix's Mastery, on the other hand...

Rzepkanut: I prefer Dack Fayden in the "loot 2 per turn" slot, because his -2 is more relevant I suspect, and he's slightly less mana. However, Daretti, Scrap Savant is a good budget replacement for Jace, the Mind Sculptor (oddly enough). Thanks for the idea! :)

flluid: The most jank of secret tech! ;) I even have one lying around...

tophertbone12: I'm on the fence for Distant Melody. I was going to play it (was in the maindeck), but I cut it for draw that could be used even without already having Locusts in play. I want to find a slot for it, but what would you cut? (And if you like the deck, feel free to +1!)

Wasadia123: Ooh, I like this idea! Thank you! :)

wereotter: How did I forget him??? He needs a slot. What should I cut? ;) - and if you like the list, you're always welcome to +1! haha

TwigTech: Hmmmm. I'll consider it, but Murder of Crows already goes infinite with Phyrexian Altar OR Ashnod's Altar, and goes for a simple Comet Storm...Thoughts?

Msg_magic: Seems too high CMC, unless I'm missing something?

Podder: My feelings are that I SHOULD be running them, but I generally hate counterspells so I don't include them. As this deck becomes more tuned they'll probably become necessary (since it IS a relatively dedicated combo deck and reliant on the commander)...

Crivaro: I like the idea, thanks! :) If you like the deck, +1s are always a kind gift ;)

Thank you all, once again, for your invaluable help! This deck wouldn't be half as good without you all.

Hmm. I would suggest replacing Tandem Lookout. I would expect people will just block whatever he's soul bonded to in order to deny you card draw. You'll probably get more cards off Forgotten Creation

Also ironic that we both forgot the creature who's name specifically says he's forgotten :)

wereotter: The goal of Tandem Lookout is to Synthetic Destiny into him and Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind - and win on the spot. Do you think the combo isn't worth including?

Daedalus19876 No. It's great. Only TWO cards -- and you win! =)

Rigol: Heck, only ONE card. Synthetic Destiny (or Mass Polymorph) fetches both halves automatically! Haha.

Daedalus19876 But it is VERY easy for a deck like this to just... draw in them ;)

oooh I see. Hmmm..... Your combo does rely on both creatures being in your library when you cast Synthetic Destiny in order to work, so I would wonder if this becomes a dead combo if you draw either creature before you are able to get it off. You do have your tutors to try to find the spell but can become broken if you pull one too soon. So I guess at that point its a choice of the slightly riskier game finisher, or if you want to have the more consistent card draw from Forgotten Creation. I'm not sure what would be a good replacement for him as there are so many strong cards in the deck already.

I honestly think that Niv-Mizzet, Dracogenius is still a very nice way to draw cards because it says, "deals damage", not "deals combat damage". It's a red and a blue to deal a damage and draw a card. That's really good for a draw-heavy deck.

Molten Psyche is definitely worth considering you seem to have a lot of artifacts so the second effect is most likely relevant at some point

wereotter: In my IRL list he might replace Wheel of Fortune or something, because they're expensive and I don't own a second copy currently :/

Workman4137: I'm just not willing to pay UR for a card honestly - I can pay 2R for 7 of them after all. Plus, Niv-Mizzet, Dracogenius just doesn't do anything the turn he enters, and my deck has too many high-CMC cards already...

Nembrothor: Thanks for the suggestion! :) A very good idea...now, to find slots...

Might as well throw in sphinx's tuteledge since you already kinda have a draw theme.
