The Swampening™ (Zombie Trailblazer pdh)

Pauper EDH Mono-Black

Jerenstein-Bear

Trial list for a mono-B zombie control deck. The idea is pretty simple: get a bunch of zombies on the field and tap them during the opponent's turn to change their lands into swamps. Dual? Swamp. Command tower? Swamp. Everything is a swamp now. Multi-color decks are especially easy to cripple with this because you can target their most needed lands. A couple sub-themes:

  • The deck is heavy in creature removal which makes it easy to sweep up the creatures that actually do manage to get cast through The Swampening™.

  • There are a few ways to permanently turn opponent lands into swamps (Contaminated Ground, Tainted Well, etc). Not only does this invalidate multi-color lands (especially if they're not in black) but it gives us a permanent in-road for the couple big hitters in the deck. Tapping one zombie to give them swampwalk is easier than doing two to create a swamp and then add swampwalk.

  • Recursion. The commander is pretty important to the deck and we're zombies so there are PUH-LENTY of ways to get creatures back from the GY. This also helps keep the friendly side of the battlefield stocked with fodder for further swampening (Cemetery Recruitment, Unearth, etc).

  • Along with the large creatures using swampwalk to get damage in there are a few ways to hit for big damage to finish things up late game (Corrupt, Consume Spirit, etc).
