Edric and the Boys Overthrow a Government

Commander / EDH Aggro Flying GU (Simic) Multiplayer Rogues Unblockable

TardisTech

Basically the CIA, play politics with people, then overthrow them in a violent coup out of nowhere.

This deck centers around the assumption that as long as you do not present too much of a threat, your opponents will often favor attacking other players instead of you so that they can draw cards.

In your opening hand you want to have 2-3 lands with both colors represented and 1 or 2 slippery creatures that you can get out before casting Edric. This will allow you to get your value engine rolling.

  • Counterspells and Removal

You generally want to save this for board wipes such as you mortal enemy Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite and any attempted response to your Coup De Grace. It doesn't matter as much if your opponents are playing big creatures or other threats as long as you are not the most likely target of their attack.

  • The Political Game

The name of this game is "don't attack me when they're a bigger threat." You can do this mechanically with cards like Edric, Spymaster of Trest. However, you can also do this through making deals. Use other player's growing board-states to justify alliances against them and use the attacks to draw cards. This will give you the resources to turn your group of 1/1s into a lethal force and win the game before anyone can stop you. And even if they try, the arsenal of counterspells you have drawn will ensure that their plans will fail. Have fun overthrowing governments!

  • Recursion

This deck has two cards to get things out of your graveyard Reclaim and Regrowth. These should be used on instant and sorcery win-cons such as Triumph of the Hordes. This will allow you to eliminate dangerous opponents without sacrificing your ability to win the game later.

It is not uncommon to have 15+ cards in you hand with this deck, so a well timed activation combined with the slippery creatures in this deck is a great path to victory.

A ton of flying 1/1s and an extra turn, what more can I say?

When you are consistently swinging with 5+ creatures, this can quickly end a game. Also, it can one shot everyone if played after a well timed Notorious Throng.

Pteramander riding a horse, nuff said.

Similar to Throne of the God-Pharaoh, where you are getting extra value our of swinging with your creatures by dealing extra damage to everyone. Great with Bident of Thassa.

Fairly strait-forward, just swing with a bunch of unblockables and flyers with infect.

Big unblockables do big damage, again, pretty strait-forward and easy to implement.

I get to imagine my opponents getting killed by whatever the kaiju form of Artificer's Assistant is.

I have always loved this card and put it in just about every blue deck. Seeing your opponent's face when you steal their best creature from their library will never get old! Plus, it fits in thematically with a CIA deck.

This is one of the most versatile cards in magic, and I love finding new ways to use it. To prove how amazing it is, just watch the end of the Theros beyond death Game Knights Episode (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJXqzB75pW8).

This is also a versatile solution to so manny issues. It can remove tiny utility creatures, pump a creature to swing for lethal, or even give you some breathing room when your life total is too low. Also, with all of the slippery creatures in the deck, it is a piece of cake to charge it.

One of my favorite cards for protecting my creatures, or even stealing pump effects and enchantment auras from your opponents. Also, it allows you to hold up less mana for counterspells to stop removal, as you can pay with your life total.

If you are not a big fan of these cards, you can always optimize the deck by adding extra turn cards such as Walk the Aeons or Temporal Mastery. However, I am not a big fan of running a bunch of extra tun spells, as I this they make the game less fun for everyone.

Nothing right now
