Fleshback Marauder —Feb. 23, 2021

With the new year of 2021 we got "Mr. I abuse ETB triggers" entering the pauper format, a.k.a Fleshbag Marauder.

And after some testing I've decided to put one copy inside the deck because the deck has the capacity to cycle this dude quite oftenly. I also changed somethings in the sideboard, removing Evincar's Justice and Suffocating Fumes from the side in order to give space to Crypt Rats (a recurring Pestilence) and Return to Nature as a way to kill two birds with one stone.

I also added a detailed sideboard guide for those who were crazy enough to find this random deck on the internet and decided to build it. I'll try to keep the guide updated as much as I can, no promises though.

Enjoy!

I loved the deck, and I am gathering the cards to do it in paper. The explanation of the deck is mesmerizing and a huge effort to provide the best global idea of the deck possible. However, I want to ask you if you can provide us with a simple explanation on how to mulligan and what hands are acceptable or not. I know I don't have the right to ask you this, principally after the great explanation of the deck that you have done, but it is a useful thing. Great work and thank you a lot for the ideas!!!

joaofvg Thanks for checking the deck out! I haven't had much time to work on it recently put I'll put a mulligan guide high up in the list of things to do. Thanks for the feedback and I hope you have as much fun with the deck as I do.

I am digging the idea but not overly sold on the Pestilence angle. I got the pieces for this so I might try giving it a shot cutting Pestilence for more midrange bodies. Angler and sumin non GY based.

Cool deck. I have always wanted to try pauper, and this seems like a fun deck to try out. After Rakdos, Golgari is my second favorite two-color pairing.

Love the idea; I can understand why you're not currently running it, but it may be worth tweaking to get Satyr Wayfinder in the mix. That'd fuel a couple of Gurmag Angler s as wincons - but the deck would be fairly different, as a result.

Love it! Reminds me of my punishing jund list.

Grubbernaut take into consideration that while Gurmag Angler may seem very tempting, nowadays most decks seem to be able to handle the fish pretty well, while the decks that don't handle it very well don't care too much about it unless you drop it on an early turn. That's why Delver Angler doesn't see as much play anymore. I've already tested a more "dredgy" heavy deck, and turns out it just becomes a worse version of TortEx. Also if I were to run a self-mill card I'd run Grapple with the Past since it keeps the recursion theme while also milling cards with the upside of returning creatures to my hand as well. But either way, with the amount of interaction that I'm running it's not practical to run self-mill. I'm running Pestilence as a main-wincon because: a) It's a very efficient removal when necessary; b) It's a little bit harder to interact than Gurmag Angler, with the upside of not costing me six cards from my graveyard if it ever gets bounced back to my hand; c) The land approach to the deck allows me to have a more comfortable mana pool by the mid to end game to use it effectively. BUt of course: a) It costs me life to "block" a creature; b) Has the normal downside of the card; c) Can't be brought back from the graveyard.
