How good is Deflecting Swat? —May 17, 2020

The C20 free spell cycle is one viewed as somewhat controversial - having all of these strictly better "pushed" spells basically replacing a bunch of commander staples (a good example being Negate vs. Fierce Guardianship). Guardianship I definitely have to get my hands on for another deck, but in this case having access to a very cool mono blue spell, but in red for free - seems quite note worthy as well. I decided to swap it in for my Swiftfoot Boots because I've found myself in situations where i'd play my commander and with the untap lands trigger on the stack someone casts Swords to Plowshares or Path to Exile - so I can't remove anything from my opponent's boards with Zacama's abilities. So, hopefully Swat will help take care of that.

Please let me know if this card is a good inclusion in the deck, and worth the slot it took. Also, i've got something really special in the works for this deck so for those who have followed this deck prepare to feast your eyes on a very special playmat I had commissioned.

I see no Zirda, the Dawnmaker in here, seems like it would be a great fit even without including it as the companion.

Budabuda123, Zirda, the Dawnwaker (not maker lol) is an interesting card indeed. It does seem like it would come in use when either Zacama or Atla is on the field - Temur Sabertooth not as much. Outside of that though...i'm not exactly sold. If Zirda was a Dinosaur? It'd be an absolute must include. But as it is now, I think it wouldn't make much of an impact in this deck.

Also, side tangent - I'm sure on this, but abilities can be on any permanent, right? If that's the case Zirda can make some permanents much more devastating, such as Aggravated Assault or Sanctum of Eternity. In the case of the latter it could make an infinite combo fire off a bit sooner. But still, I don't feel completely sold.
