Core Set 2020 Update —June 30, 2019

Core Set 2020 gifted us a new, awesome counterspell that is perfect for the Commander format and is even more powerful in our deck: the card I'm talking about is obviously Tale's End. It has the same modes of Stifle-like counterspells (thus countering exile graveyard triggers and sacrifice triggers), combined with the huge upside of being able to counter every legendary creature (therefore, 99% of the commanders) and every planeswalker. Sometimes we are stuck with a Stifle in hand and no targets for it, but Tale's End will almost never be a dead card. This added flexibility is exactly what we were looking for.

As far as the card it needed to replace, it clearly had to be another counterspell. At first I thought about Nimble Obstructionist, which is the weakest of our 4 protection spells. However, these kind of counterspells are so important that I decided to go for a total of 5 (Stifle, Trickbind, Disallow, Nimble Obstructionist and Tale's End). As a result, I ended up cutting the weakest counterspell that we had, Arcane Denial.
