Introduction Show

I'm a long-time magic fan at this point, having played the game for almost a decade now. I've been on and off since Theros block, and recently got back into the game as a hobby and creative outlet. I had several Commander decks and have recently been updating them after a 3-4 year hiatus.

This deck was originally a Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind combo/control deck, but since then, my play philosophy has changed, and I enjoy playing decks with high synergy value cards over a deck hellbent to win the game through comboing out immediately.

I didn't keep in touch with Magic too much around Strixhaven due to life and other hobbies, but I discovered looking through commanders that Veyran, Voice of Duality fits my Commander play philosophy. Might be why recently I put together a Teysa Karlov deck as well. Both double the value of the cards I play in the decks, making for a super explosive play experience!

I use tutors in this deck, and I do have a couple infinite combos, but the pieces of the combos are great on their own so it doesn't feel bad drawing into one part of the combo.

Draw

Cards that refuel my hand or cantrips that replace themselves to up my storm count! There are some cards that enable combat tricks, but I mainly use them to replace themselves. They're usually cheap to the point to where they're free to cast when storming off, seeing as they have an average cmc of 1-2!

Pingers

The main win conditions of the deck. These cards deal damage when you cast an instant or sorcery spell. With Veyran, these creatures Shock your opponents with every spell you play! There are six of these in the deck, so you'll be guaranteed to draw into one!

Ramp

I run minimal ramp outside of the obvious rituals and other cards that add mana for when you cast spells because the deck runs super low to the ground. With an average CMC of ~2.5, there is no need for much ramp outside of some cheaper ones like Talismans and Sol Ring.

Interaction

Any counterspells, board wipes, or removal for opponents. It is important to keep opponents in check and protect us for going off! Most should be self-explanatory, but I know I included some oddballs in the interaction package that will be explained later!

Recursion

There aren't too many cards in this category because {U}{U} isn't exactly well-known for recursion. Past in Flames is an absolute playmaker in this deck! Mystic Retrieval comes in clutch with the flashback as well.

Tutors

Pretty self-explanatory, tutors allow me to find a specific card in my deck when I need it most! Options are relatively constrained, but Gamble allows us to tutor for anything with a slight risk involved.

Value

Cards that don't really fall into the other categories, however they provide lots of advantage! Most double up on spells and triggers.

Unique Cards Show

• Curiosity: Infamous for going infinite with Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind and Niv-Mizzet, Parun, this card lets me draw cards off of the five pingers in the deck.

• Redirect, Swerve, and Misdirection: I use these in tandem with counterspells as protection and for the fun of the game! The table usually goes wild when effects like this get cast, allowing for super memorable games!

Combos Show

This deck usually relies on building a massive storm count to ping opponents to oblivion. Usually this involves ramp and draw spells. An example would be Storm-Kiln Artist or Archmage Emeritus on the field with Veyran. Usually with enough cantrips you're able to ping opponents with some of the many pingers in the deck.

• Reiterate + Seething Song/Desperate Ritual: Infinite storm/mana. With Mana Geyser, you need to produce at least three mana (which isn't too hard in multiplayer pods) to go infinite.
