Farewell, Paradox Engine —July 13, 2019

I'll be posting an update in the next few days regarding where this deck goes without Paradox Engine. Paradox Engine wasn't... CRITICAL to the deck? But it still gave an important backup plan that the deck will miss, and will probably require me to put the Doomsday line back in.

Dire Undercurrents for when you make faeries? Also looks like you are running light on board wipes. If Mill is your tactic, might want to add Illusionist's Bracers to double that up and it works great with Dire Undercurrents since you get to mill them more when your faeries ETB. Make them draw, then discard.

Otherwise +1

Zimmers_0: It's worth mentioning that in this list, unlike Locust God, I never intend to cast Oona unless I have infinite mana. She's a sink to exile opponents' libraries, the faeries are actually kinda incidental.

Bolas's Citadel is on the site now.

Nice deck +1.

Why there is no Scroll Rack ? it has great synergy with Necropotence and imho much better card than Verity Circle (btw why it is here at the first place?)

AlmightyTentacle Verity Circle is actually popping up a lot because it punishes people using their dorks/utility creatures. More than pulls its weight, and actually draws more cards than Rhystic Study in many cases.

Reshape , Vault of Whispers , Whir of Invention and blue artifact land, all seem like good cards to add, so you can accelerate the game to get to Citadel.

AlmightyTentacle: Scroll Rack is in consideration, actually. It may find a home here - what would you cut for it? I really appreciate Verity Circle against... just about anything that plays dorks (ie all of green in cEDH).

SlavicGhaespar: I tested those, actually. The artifact searches weren't very good off of Citadel, unfortunately. I ran the lands, but decided to focus more on basics to 1) dodge Blood Moon and friends, and 2) get more value from High Tide .

if you are up to adding white with something like Zur the Enchanter , you can add the Phyrexian Unlife + Solemnity combo

Plazmasoul: Thanks for the comment! I'm not convinced that combo fits here super well - either half is dead, and it's not super resilient - but it would let me add Enlightened Tutor . Still, I think I'll stick with 2-colors: cheaper, and lets me cast Bolas's Citadel more easily.

Insidious Dreams into Bolas's Citadel & other wincons... if that's your thing....

Gleeock: I've considered it, actually. MAYBE still might have a home, but I'm dubious (mostly because it screws you over SO hard if it gets countered, and hurts off of Ad Nauseam ).

I feel like Intruder Alarm and some mana dorks(myr?) might go visciously infinite with Oona. Not sure if that is competitive enough for you. Even if you had any combination of Phyrexian Altar or Ashnod's Altar with Pitiless Plunderer and Intruder Alarm some mana dorks and could generate tokens with oona you go infinite I think. Or something in that neighbourhood.

Are you planning on putting in Power Artifact in the deck since Paradox Engine is in the maybe board?

Daedalus19876 says... #14

VampiricTooter: Thanks for the comment! It does go pseudo-infinite with her, but I don't ever want to cast Oona in this deck until I already have infinite mana, and Intruder Alarm doesn't do much for the deck without creatures that generate mana AND Oona on field. I think it's too much of a long-shot to work well here :(

soggy442784: Nah, not a fan. I tested Power Artifact loops here and found them underwhelming. Even though Oona only strictly takes infinite colorless to win, it's 6 colored mana before you can exile all opponents' decks. There simply are better infinite mana combos here.

Ahh! Fair enough. Well either way. Thank you for your locust god Primer. It was the first deck tech article I read that immediately convinced me I had to build that commander. My locust god deck has climbed its way into being one my highest winning decks and easily one of favourites to play

I think Paradox Engine is a better finisher in this deck then Doomsday . It seems more reliable in my opinion.

Doomsday seems a bit win more and Paradox Engine adds more value when not servicing your end game.

Love the deck - had a casual EDH deck revolving around citadel but it was a bit too strong. What about Mana Severance ?

Well, with the Paradox Engine ban this'll need to change. Perhaps this is the opportunity for Citadel's ascendance! ;)
