Not sure if the deck has enough synergy, though it seems to work well at times. It may need more sacrifice outlets, but needs some more decks to play against to figure that out for sure. Having Lifeline and more white token generation has really helped advance Teysa, Orzhov Scion 's ability

I am a fan of Darkest Hour in Teysa, Orzhov Scion . Many players do not see it coming. One fun thing with all creatures being black: Have a sac outlet (Ashnod's Altar or the like). This gives you infinite, colorless mana. Now, just burn all your opponents (Debt to the Deathless or Exsanguinate ).

Does that mean Darkest Hour makes them black in addition to their other colors, or would that effect negate Teysa, Orzhov Scion 's first ability?

It makes them black and only black, thus effectively negating the first ability of Teysa, Orzhov Scion . I do not see tutors, so the chance of drawing the 3 cards required to combo out are slim. Also, combining the sac effect from Ashnod's Altar with Grave Pact will also wipe your opponent's board.

There are times when Darkest Hour will be useful and other times when it will not be, depending on board state.

My playgroup, when I play my Teysa deck, know what to expect and Darkest Hour never sticks around very long.

Gotcha. I can see the infinite combo with Ashnod's Altar , and if I threw in a Blasting Station that would kill everyone as well as the two you suggested earlier. I did add in Demonic Collusion and Insidious Dreams for some tutoring, though I may add in a few more, and I like the understated combos that can insta-kill people. Works well in multiplayer when people don't see you as a threat until it's too late.

Another option (since you are sac'ing creatures) could be Blood Artist and/or Falkenrath Noble . For EDH (many will disagree with me), I find the noble more valuable than the artist - bigger body, flying, and can attack (somewhat effectively).

Blasting Station is a good addition. I never thought about adding it to mine. I think I may post my Teysa for you to look at. Probably this weekend when I have time.

Also, for EDH, Diabolic Revelation is a great tutor. Monetary value-wise, it is fairly cheap as is Diabolic Tutor .

With all the discard shenanigans you have going, some Reanimate effects may be helpful. Just a side thought.

I'm all for the Reanimate , that is definitely going in. I'm moving toward discard and gravedigging, then dropping any creature I want from the graveyard into play, usually with some kind of ability trigger. Only thing that really kills this deck is any kind of Tormod's Crypt or other graveyard exiling. Not sure how to prevent that, other than grabbing creatures out before it's too late.

Tormod's Crypt requires targetting you. A few things I can think of would be Leyline of Sanctity and Witchbane Orb . Depending on your meta, they may be useless cards. There is the option of things such as Elixir of Immortality or Feldon's Cane - just in case of graveyard hate. You have as much chance as drawing an answer as they do their graveyard hate.

Good point. I'll take that into consideration if it ends up being an issue in the long term.

So far it looks like Ashen Rider is the main ruler of this deck, especially if I have Lifeline in play, but I'm in need of some black creatures that sacrifice themselves for good uses. Other than the dual color spells, I've realized that I don't have a ton of sac outlets, or a way to get more white tokens with Teysa's first ability.

Viscera Seer , Cartel Aristocrat are a few creatures that come to mind as a sac outlet. Attrition could work (requires mana). Phyrexian Altar is similar to one I mentioned earlier. If you rely on ETB effects (with Lifeline in play, this seems decent),Geist-Honored Monk would be good. Combine these type of effects with a Suture Priest for fun shenanigans (especially if your opponents are having to sac when you do due to Grave Pact ).

December 16, 2013 2:51 p.m.

Cartel Aristocrat could definitely work since I can sack it if needed for a white creature, has a sac outlet, and also brings in a white token when it dies as well. Definitely going to put that one in. The deck makes a lot of use out of ETB effects as well as ETG, and even though I initially wanted to put Grave Pact in there, it ends up just bringing a lot more hate my way in multi-player games. So that's why I tended toward more single card effects, rather than all opponents.

I understand completely. My playgroup is tired of the same old stuff (I usually have 14-16 EDH on me to rotate around, whereas others have 1 or 2 and you can expect the same exact thing over and over). We made a general house rule that edh is meant to be fun and certain things just take away fun. I have decks that draw hate and others that are just amounts of fun. My new fun card is Possibility Storm and feel it should be in every red deck. Just as it adds a certain fun chaoticness, if you understand what I am trying to say.

Now that is a great card. Might have to put that in my Zedruu deck. There are certainly some unique and fun ways to play MTG, and I always strive for that. Winning isn't all there is to it.

Still doing quite a bit of tweaking on this one. Added some more graveyard recall, but thinking of adding a bit more mass removal. I may need either more land or more land searching since this deck gets jacked on mana a bit. Not sure if it's just a bad draw or what...

January 14, 2014 5:12 a.m.

phantomsts says... #16

If you can pick one up, Debtors' Knell is a great enchantment.

Mass removal: Day of Judgment , Wrath of God , Planar Cleansing , Life's Finale to name a few.

I would also look at removing Ashes to Ashes and put in either Unmake or Swords to Plowshares .

I generally run 36-38 lands plus 3-4 rocks (Sol Ring , Darksteel Ingot , etc)

January 15, 2014 9:41 a.m.

freezerboy says... #17

Yeah, I think adding in some mana ramp artifacts would help. I need to pick up a Orzhov Keyrune , and add in Sol Ring , Mana Vault , and a few others that I have in other decks. I was hoping to use the space for something else, but it seems to be working against me. I'm guessing you prefer Unmake /Swords to Plowshares to Ashes to Ashes because of the instant speed?

January 15, 2014 2:21 p.m.

phantomsts says... #18

Not only instant speed, but life loss as well. I do run Ashes in some of my decks, but generally there is only 1 threat I need removed from the game (most often an Eldrazi). Losing 5 life has made the difference in games for me and I would rather not sacrifice it if I do not have to.

I am sure I have extra Orzhov Keyrune s lying around if you want me to send you one.

January 16, 2014 1:25 p.m.

freezerboy says... #19

Appreciate the offer, but I just got one, along with an Unmake from a friend of mine. I think having the added mana-producing artifacts is going to help this deck quite a bit.

Swapped out a couple cards and added in some mass resurrection spells to help prevent mass removal, as well as use my own mass removal against the opponent. I'm curious to see how Sepulchral Primordial end up playing out.

February 22, 2014 1:52 a.m.

phantomsts says... #21

In my playgroup, we discourage infinite combos, but with that being said, we understand the necessity that they offer (maybe to stop that one player who is out of hand, put an end to a game that is at a stalemate or just too long, etc).

Sepulchral Primordial has never turned out to be great in any of my matchups (though he has only been cast a handful of times). I do like him and he fits, just probably my luck with him.

I think Rise of the Dark Realms could find a place in here as well. How is your land base? Average of about 4 CMC, low cost general, you might be able to get away with 36. Maybe cut 1 and try it.

If you are working with ETB effects, Triad of Fates may also be one to look at including. I have been working on a Triad edh with him as my general.

Glad to hear it is working out for you. I also like the deck name change.

February 22, 2014 10:08 a.m.

freezerboy says... #22

Haha, thanks. I had been using Triad of Fates for a while, but the turn lag when you put a counter on one of your creatures to when you get to use it just ends up making that specific creature a target. I may put him back in if Sepulchral Primordial doesn't end up working out. I agree that Rise of the Dark Realms so I'll keep that in the maybe list...and as far as combos go, the only thing that's really devastated people is Yosei, the Morning Star , but I found it's not nearly as effective in multiplayer games than it is in 1v1. Makes it a little less broken, which is nice.

February 22, 2014 8:45 p.m.

phantomsts says... #23

Very true. Also, with Triad, you could look at using Illusionist's Bracers or Rings of Brighthearth to accelerate the counters. I know Triad gets a lot of hate on board (at least in the few decks I have seen him as the general), so something that grants haste is usually nice. But, that is many cards to support a 1 creature that is a "random" in the deck. I still think Debtors' Knell needs a spot. I also found Necromancer's Covenant is nice to get rid of a potentially bad graveyard of an opponents. Also, how has Divine Reckoning been working for you? I always found it lackluster, as the opponent usually has a creature better than me.

February 24, 2014 1:02 p.m.

freezerboy says... #24

Divine Reckoning works amazingly when I have Lifeline out, since most of the time I have a few ETB or ETG effects in play that can take out the creature they choose to remain, then I get everything back since I have at least one creature in play. I've thought about Necromancer's Covenant , and I almost put in Angel of Finality for the same reason. I'm still debating on Debtors' Knell since I usually don't end up getting enough land to play it. Most of the time the game is decided before I have 7 mana.

So just looked up the legacy text on Lifeline ...a bit disappointed that it works for all players...but thankfully doesn't protect against exile, so it's still useful, just not as much with things like Divine Reckoning .
