The Cat Came Back, the Very Next Turn!

Casual Budget Casual Mono-Black Theme/Gimmick

Zeddicuus

Now old Mr. Johnson had troubles of his own He had a yellow cat that wouldn't leave his home He tried and he tried to get that cat away Gave it to a man going far away

But the cat came back the very next turn, The cat came back, we thought he was a goner But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.

Now the man around the corner swore he'd kill the cat on sight He loaded up his shotgun with nails and dynamites He waited and he waited for the cat to come around Ninety-seven pieces of the man is all they found

But the cat came back the very next turn, The cat came back, we thought he was a goner But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.

Gave it to a little boy with a dollar note Told him for to take it up the river in a boat They tied a rope around its neck it must've weighed a pound Now they drag the river for the little boy it's drowned

But the cat came back the very next turn, The cat came back, we thought he was a goner But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.

Gave it to man going up in a balloon Told him for to take it to the man on the Moon The balloon came down about 90 miles away Where he is now, I dare not say

But the cat came back the very next turn, The cat came back, we thought he was a goner But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.

They gave it to a man going way out west Told him for to take it to the one he loved the best First, the train hit the curve, then it jumped the rail Not a soul was left behind to tell the gruesome tale

But the cat came back the very next turn, The cat came back, we thought he was a goner But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.

Away across the ocean he did send the cat at last Vessel out alone today taking water fast People all began to pray the boat began to toss A great big gust of wind came by and every soul was lost

But the cat came back the very next turn, The cat came back, we thought he was a goner But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.

On a telegraph wire, sparrows sitting in a bunch The cat was feeling hungry, thought she'd like them for a lunch Climb softly up the pole, when she reached the top Put her foot in the electric wire, which tied her in a knot

But the cat came back the very next turn, The cat came back, we thought he was a goner But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.

Now the cat was a possessor of a family of a own With seven little kittens and along came a cyclone Blew the houses all apart and tossed the cat around The air was full of kittens and not a one was found

But the cat came back, the very next turn The cat came back, they thought she was a goner But the cat came back, just wouldn't stay away, away, away, away Just wouldn't stay away...

The Strategy:

The main strategy is to get creatures in to play to trigger Ayara, and/or get a Cauldron Familiar going with Witch's Ovens to help be chump blocks and trigger multiple life drain with Ayara, First of Locthwain , Syr Konrad, the Grim or Vindictive Vampire . The life gain from these should bolster the Bloodthirsty Aerialist with +1/+1 counters aplenty to get some big hits.

Syr Konrad, the Grim 's secondary ability actually works pretty good in this deck once you start getting the kitty kombo going on. Foreboding Fruit serves double duty: It's either netting you precious card draw or draining 2 life from a tapped out opponent to try to finish the game. Order of Midnight can return key creatures in your graveyard to your hand. Midnight Reaper will give a huge amount of card advantage when you start cycling the kitty into the oven.

If you want to make this deck more budget friendly than it already is, just replace the Murderous Rider s with Murder . The only real difference is you can get a body if you're in a tight spot, allowing a nice and tidy 2-for-1 with that 3 CMC card slot should Lady Luck be spitting in your Food.

It's mostly a gimmick/theme deck I built around the Food aspect in Throne of Eldraine while messing around on Arena, but it has turned out to be pretty fun and pretty versatile thus far!

Of course, card suggestions are always welcome! I am trying to keep this standard if possible just to see how well I can create this deck!

Updates Add

So, looking over the card suggestion on Revenge of Ravens, I decided to add it and see how it does.

Currently I'm also ordering the cards needed to build the cardboard version of this deck, but given that my playgroup is more casual I've swapped out some cards for others. As follows:

-Midnight Reaver is swapped out for Grim Haruspex -Vindictive Vampire is swapped out for Zulaport Cutthroat -1 Murderous Rider is swapped out temporarily for Ravenous Chupacabra -Considering replacing Murder with Ravenous Chupacabra instead, giving another creature to sac to the Witch's Oven.

The deck should feel more streamlined as well as a bit cheaper overall to build, as the Grim Haruspex is a bit cheaper than Midnight Reaper. Same for Chupacabra compared to Murderous Riders, though I intend to get a hold of more of the Riders.
