Sideboard

Do you like large, scaly, winged creatures? Have you ever wanted to be fire and/or death? Does the above picture look like your normal Tuesday night? If you answered yes to any of these questions, this deck may just be for you!

How to play:

Step One: Ramp like your life total depends on it. We start ramping while keeping a little board state with Rattleclaw Mystic, Shaman of Forgotten Ways, and Courser of Kruphix. Later on, if all that still wasn't enough to satisfy you, swing with a Savage Ventmaw and roll in all your shiny new mana.

Step Two: Get those enchantments out. Temur Ascendancy is the most important one, as it'll keep the cards flowing in the late game. Dragon Tempest is going to be your damage for board control, and only gets crazier the more dragons you drop.

Step Three: Drop your heavy hitters and laugh maniacally. The more Thunderbreak Regents you can get out at once, the safer your dragons are. Swinging with a Balefire Dragon is... demoralizing for the other side. Dragonlord Atarka is simply the end of the game. I've found that dropping Atarka usually wipes most of the board between her own damage and Dragon Tempest, so when she swings (with haste) it hurts.

The real fun of this deck is in the fact that every time you drop a dragon, you should be dealing a chunk of damage to something and drawing at least one card. The momentum just builds from there.

Serum Visions allows you to control your early game, increasing the consistency of play. This deck needed a solid one drop, and we're playing blue, so Serum Visions was the perfect choice. And of course, Draconic Roar couldn't fit more perfectly as the removal in this deck.

In the late game, Sarkhan Unbroken and Temur Ascendancy keep the cards flowing in to provide a steady stream of "screw you and everything in your general direction" to your opponent.

  • Dragon Tempest + Temur Ascendancy + any dragon: Every dragon in the deck will set off the two most important enchantments in the deck.

  • Dragon Tempest + Sarkhan Unbroken + Temur Ascendancy : Sarkhan's -2 ability actually sets off both of these enchantments for serious value. Especially since the 4/4 he drops can protect him even if there's nothing else on the board.

  • Dragon Tempest + Dragonmaster Outcast + Temur Ascendancy : If you manage to get this trifecta out onto the board, it's basically game over. Every single turn you'll be drawing an extra card, removing something on the board or dealing damage to face, and dropping a 5/5 dragon with haste onto the field for free. And that's only with one copy of each card out.

  • Courser of Kruphix + Dragonmaster Outcast : This isn't really a combo, it's just a wonderful pair in this deck. Courser, while being amazing in his own right, also allows Dragonmaster to go off far more often.

  • Savage Ventmaw + Shaman of Forgotten Ways : I actually saved the trickiest combo for last. This one is fun. See, Shaman can activate his ability at any time. So here's how this works. Attack with the Ventmaw and any other creatures you can spare, then after your opponent declares blockers and before the combat damage step, count and see how much damage is going through to your opponent. If it is more than the number of creatures your opponent controls, tap Shaman for his secondary ability. It is expensive, but you can use the ridiculous amount of mana from the Ventmaw to pay for it. This will drop your opponent's health right before damage goes through, and boom. Endgame.

Against control: Sylvan Caryatid is a solid ramp piece that stays alive even against decks with heavy removal. Silumgar's Scorn is great for protection against control, since it can be used to protect either your dragons or your all-important enchantments. The most important card in the sideboard against control is Surrak Dragonclaw. If you find yourself playing against control, he is the one thing that'll keep you in the game.

Against aggro: To keep our life total up long enough to stabilize against either burn or aggro, we have Feed the Clan. Having any of our dragons out on the board gets that ferocious active, so it should be able to be played for full value the vast majority of the time. For decks that go wide, we sided in a couple copies of Anger of the Gods. It will kill our smaller ramp dudes, but Courser of Kruphix and all of our dragons are safely above the threshold.

In conclusion, Sarkhan Unbroken is a total badass. I once ulted him and dealt 54 damage off of Dragon Tempest alone. It was awesome.
