Deck Updates & Infinite Mana deck strategies added —Nov. 20, 2018
Big list of changes. The changes are mostly a restructure to speed the deck up and to keep it relevant in a faster meta. Thes include moving off of Eldritch Evolution, and Necropotence. Adding in Freed Tendies, Paradox Engine, Ad Nauseam, Notion Thief, a Mnemonic Betrayal package. Other changes are some individual card adjustments, swapping counter spells, card draw and recursion options. Also adding in Grafdigger's Cage as a strong piece of hulk, reanimation, and flashback hate. Covering a wide range of decks.
Here are the inline replacements.
-Elves of Deep Shadow +Utopia Sprawl
-Eldritch Evolution +Mnemonic Betrayal
-Razaketh, the Foulblooded +Riftsweeper
-Nezahal, Primal Tide +Seeds of Innocence
-Engineered Explosives +Pernicious Deed
-Life \\ Death +Grafdigger's Cage
-Necropotence +Notion Thief
-Snapcaster Mage +Mission Briefing
-Arcane Denial +Stubborn Denial
-Manifold Insights +Ad Nauseam
-Phantasmal Image +Assassin's Trophy
-Training Grounds +Bloom Tender
-Eternal Witness +Freed from the Real
-Dark Petition +Paradox Engine
-Trickbind +Mana Vault
-Cabal Coffers +Priest of Titania
Some final testing is still occurring regarding removing Aetherflux Reservoir and putting in Runic Armasaur. I am unsure on this one but I do know that metas will benefit from either and it would be a decent spot to swap out for some card draw if you are not being pressured on your life total.

And if you ad languish what do you think you would take out?

simakover - PI is in the list in a flex slot. It is a local meta call for me, it could be any other tech card you need for your local meta. Palinchron was removed in favor of Dramatic Scepter as the infinite mana outlet. Its easier to assemble and faster.
Papaglock21 - Reanimator is fine. It is more of a meta call. With large amounts of Protean Hulk in the upper ranges of decks, graveyard hate is pretty difficult to fight through right now. Its totally a valid route, but it is easier to disrupt as it gets hit by hate in a lot of decks. If you wanted to add Languish, I'd drop a creature from my current list, probably Phantasmal Image cause it is a flex slot and a local meta choice.

Can the new Mox Amber from Dominaria serve as a budget replacement for Mox Opal?
April 2, 2018 12:40 p.m.
LabManiac_Cameron - so, we have only one way to generate inf mana? scepter + reversal, is it enought for stable game?im asking, cause you already have a second plan for use inf mana, if shift is in exile, you use grasp. But im dont see any inf mana gain if reversal is in exile. In my local meta people play cards like sadisctic sacrament(and kiked version ruins any deck), Bitter Ordeal. So im in brainstorming, an im need some backup combo or am im needed more control cards.

nlabelle - Mox Amber works and doesn't. We don't have legendary creatures to cast early, which means that it doesn't help with the early game. Its a nice free mana rock and can work as part of Razaketh lines as a Mox Diamond/Chrome Mox replacement, but it doesn't work great.
simakover - Phantasmal Image in my deck is a flex slot. It could just as easily be Rift Sweeper. Or, you could leave PI in the deck and find a spot for Palinchron. It would work well with Eldritch Evolution off of Tasigur just as well.

LabManiac_Cameron is PI+pali better combo than tidespout + rocks?
April 3, 2018 11:07 a.m.
LabManiac_Cameron says... #8
simakover PI + Pali gives you the most compact combo with the individually most useful pieces. Palinchron isn't great but in a few cases can go infinite on its own. PI, on the other hand, has a ton of utility value. Tidespout on its own doesn't do a ton, costs a lot and requires at least a mana positive rock and a mana neutral dock to go off. Additionally Null Rod / Stony Silence are the strongest stax pieces right now. Cursed Totem / Linvala are right behind them but not nearly as universally powerful.

Can you help me understand when you would use the Seasons Past + 2 Tutor loop over just using Tasigur's ability after you have generated infinite colored mana? Is it strictly for situations where Tasigur is not available? It seems that logically if you have access to Tasigur than you can just use him to pull your deck into your hands (minus lands) and then utilize whichever win condition you choose to close the game out. Using Seasons Past seems like it is just redundancy for Tasigur being out of commission for whatever reason. Am I misunderstanding something or is my assumption correct?

Hi!
About a month ago I came here looking for advice for a more 75%-ish version of Tasigur. I had in mind something fairly strong and competitive in regular EDH, but not exactly cEDH territory and done on a budget (relatively speaking).
I'm nearly done with a first testing list and I'd be happy if you could take a look, since I used this deck and your primer as inspiration. Manabase is subject to change, but this will do for starters. As for the rest of the deck, any comments and tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance!
I'll make you an offer you can't refuse...

Syncharmony - Seasons Past is a late game power house and an alternative win. When you get to the point of casting it, it usually reads - tutor the three best cards and a land from your graveyard. Notably this gets around an opponent's choice. It is a card advantage engine that ensures the late game. It also lets you combo off through a Cursed Totem or a stolen Tasigur.
JohnnyCRO - You have a very high number of lands. You would probably get some benefit from fewer lands and more mana ramp through rocks and dorks.
April 5, 2018 9:33 a.m.
Thank you for your response!
My meta isn't cEDH, it's not uncommon for games to drag on so I have the time to draw and play my lands. But more importantly, since games in my group tend to drag on a bit I could easily fall behind on mana. My meta is around "75%" with some decks being above that and with others being a bit below.
As for additional rocks and dorks, what do you suggest? I included most of the rocks and dorks you did (save for Diamond, that's out of my budget unfortunately). But more importantly, I don't know of other good and affordable rocks or dorks at or below cmc of 2 or 1 respectively.

JohnnyCRO - If you are wanting to keep that higher of a land count then Exploration and Burgeoning should be included for sure. Other mana rocks to consider would be Mind Stone, Coldsteel Heart, and Thought Vessel.
April 5, 2018 10:50 a.m.
So Exploration and/or Burgeoning instead or alongside Oracle of Mul Daya? I'll add them to the maybeboard.
I am aware of those. I tried to avoid ETB tapped rocks and colorless rocks, my numbers are kinda stretched as it is. Coldsteel Heart may be worth the space. But IMHO the deck is too color-hungry early to justify too many colorless rocks. If any I'd add Thought Vessel.
Save for the ramp and the manabase, do you have any other tips/remarks/comments? Manabase and ramp package will change over time as I playtest the deck and I'll take into account your suggestions made so far.

How is Brainstorm working out for you; is the upside so great that you don't feel bad if a Tasigur activation gets it back for you?
April 8, 2018 3:57 p.m.
LabManiac_Cameron says... #16
ariston - Brainstorm's upside is huge to the point that it is very rarely given back. Pairing it with Life from the Loam can make the upside on it draw 3, not draw 1. I personally haven't had it given back to me yet.

I am trying to understand why Manifold insights is a better choice than Fact or Fiction. Is 2U vs 3U basically what it boils down to? I would think that FoF's discard to graveyard effect + being instant speed would give it the edge.
Also, since you aren't running Palichron, then wouldn't Phyrexian Metamorph offer even more utility than Phantasmal Image? Can operate as a second Copy Artifact and enable Dramatic Scepter that much easier.
Any cards from Dominaria that have caught your eye?
April 17, 2018 11:39 a.m.
LabManiac_Cameron says... #18
Syncharmony - Manifold Insights vs Fact or Fiction has a few big differences. You won't get land, unless you are SUPER unlucky and flip 10 lands. odds of that in a 30-32 land deck are astronomical. Second you get competing priorities for your opponents that lead to a mixed bag of options. Rather than a single one choice to create two piles, each opponent is given a single choice between multiple options. This allows for competing priorities to give you better options. Last is mana cost, that one extra cmc is huge.
Phantasmal Image is a meta choice for a flex slot. Phyrexian Metamorph again is 1 cmc + 2 life more and gets hit my more options for removal as it is an artifact.

Does Muldrotha hold any value as a possible new target for Eldritch Evolution?
April 19, 2018 10:03 a.m.
Any cards from dominaria have potential in this list?

Aren't people always giving you back Life from the Loam with Tasigur?
April 21, 2018 2:35 p.m.
LabManiac_Cameron says... #22
Syncharmony & Mulloajr1 - From Dominaria, Muldrotha looks really solid as an Evolution/Reanimation target. Other cards I'm looking at for testing are... Damping Sphere, Final Parting, Rona disciple of Gix, and Unwind.
Peej - If you have left LftL in your bin, then yes. You will want to either cycle a land to dredge or stagger your LftL casts. If you do not yet have cycling lands available to you, you alternate returning three lands to your hand during a turn and they dredging LftL and keeping in your hand until you need more land drops to make it so they don't just give you LftL.

Thanks for the reply, how has muldrotha been working out?

What changes might be made if I wanted to bring this deck to non competitive EDH environment, because my play group is fine with nukes and all that but as you might now the meta is way different with more things probably turning sideways more then in competitive.

MordMetal I play a version of this deck in a 75%ish kind of playgroup. Meta examples are Kaalia, Scion, Gishath, Xenagos, Krenko, Meren, etc.
When tuning the deck to my meta I found it very helpful to include cards that discourage my opponents from attacking me. Maze of Ith, No Mercy, Propaganda, Glacial Chasm are all cards that do a lot of work on that end for me without diluting the control element of the deck significantly.
Since it's a slower meta than cEDH, I also found that removal like Song of the Dryads to be invaluable to shut down a particularly pesky commander (or any permanent giving you trouble).
If your meta is especially creature heavy like mine than running more board wipes can be a good thing. Even though it's CMC is high, I have won many games with a well timed Decree of Pain that drew me into my win conditions.
As far as recommended removals from Cameron's list, a lot of it is going to be meta dependent of course. However some cards like Counterbalance are more valuable in a cEDH meta where the emphasis is on low CMC cards and thus it will be effective very often. Since I don't have to answer win threatening combos early in the game, I run a few less counters and a few more answers for late game threats.
Hope that helps. If you check his primer under Meta Based Inclusions, you will get more ideas as well.

Is it viable to run a small reanimate/entomb/animate dead package in the decklist with Razaketh and Nezahal? I love the Raza/Nez package but find a lot of use in turn one or two reanimating a fatty or even just mind game entombing I life from the loam especially when Nezahal is in play, but I trust you make better decisions than me Im just a sucker for entomb reanimate!!
