Ha ha ha. That image slayed me, Onyxio. Wait until you see my other decks :(

Fortunately, I've bought into these over a long time, mostly before the recent spike in prices.

Thanks for the upvote and kind words. The flavor or goblins as ineffective, suicidal, and stupid is a running gag I've always enjoyed and this deck is stacked with some fun and classic gobbos from throughout the years. It's been honed into such a specific sort of combo deck that it's missing a lot of the archetypal "tribal" cards. I'm sure Pirates was super fun to build and play!

Never stop, VietMoneys.

You should consider Final Fortune and Last Chance. They’re basically Time Walk, as many times you just need another turn to finish a setup and get there. If you’re looking for speed and all in, I highly recommend them. I run them in my Krenko and they’re hot.

Hey TheGeneralAdvisor, thanks for checking out the deck. I've been thinking about this type of effect for a long time and I appreciate the reminder/encouragement. One turn can make ALL the difference in this deck, so I think I'll be trying to track down a copy ASAP. Cheers!

Treasonous Ogre??? Why? He isn't goblin

VietMoneys says... #8

Hey Fess1988, thanks for checking it out. How I wish Treasonous Ogre was a goblin...

Still, the ability to trade life for mana can be game-winning in a deck designed to run as quickly as this one. Often times, a few extra mana can buy the one extra Umbral Mantle or Staff of Domination untap necessary to cross the threshold into infinite goblins, or can cast the extra one-drop to tip you into a net-positive gobbo equation with Skirk Prospector on the field!

Doomsday has the most amazing synergy with Grenzo's ability. Cast Doomsday and build the pile from the bottom up starting with Priest of Gix or Priest of Urabrask, Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker, (tap Kiki to make a copy of the priest), Mogg Raider or Goblin Sledder (sacrificed to itself to give Grenzo +1/+1 until end of turn) and then Zealous Conscripts (targeting and untapping Kiki starting the Kiki/Conscripts infinite). You can also use a similar Doomsday pile with Metallic Mimic, Murderous Redcap and Skirk Prospector.

It’s important to read the deck description SamsWrath so you can know what kind of feedback to give. If you look almost directly above your comment you’ll see that he specifically addressed not running Doomsday or the requisite piles.

Hey SamsWrath, thanks for checking out the deck. Indeed Doomsday can wrap up a game quite neatly, but I'm just not that into winning in such a manner. Many of the combo pieces that you mentioned are in this deck, but solely because they are excellent cards that fit into the Power ≤3 design guideline of this deck. Honestly, my favorite thing to do with Kiki Jiki in this deck is copy Solemn Simulacrum, ha ha.

While I definitely stumble into these combos with some regularity, I generally don't search them up unless I'm in a game that's dragging on painfully. I'm even trying out some fun cards to replace Necropotence with for this same reason.

FenIsABasicSwamp, I did however, I chose to mention it anyway because the statement about avoiding DD also mentioned avoiding, "higher-power creatures that define Grenzo's CEDH build." The fact is that THOSE creatures are already in this deck. cEDH Grenzo doesn't run high power creatures. It runs Kiki/Conscripts and Mimic/Redcap.

VietMoneys you can always try replacing Necro with Phyrexian Arena or Dark Confidant.

Hey SamsWrath. I hadn't thought about Bob! I like the idea of draw strapped onto a creature given Grenzo's obvious strengths. Also considering Gonti, Lord of Luxury and Phyrexian Rager.

January 10, 2019 5:48 p.m.

SamsWrath says... #16

VietMoneys, Phyrexian Arena is the best bet imo because you'll only lose 1 life for each draw whereas Bob might cause you to lose significantly more. If the deck was built for speed Bob would be the better option because he's the lower-cmc choice but, as it is you could end up taking a few hits of 5+ life for each Bob trigger.

This deck is great inspiration! The fact that you can almost do with purely Goblins (recursion creatures aside) is what I like most.

Hi i love your deck, any thoughts on The Cauldron of Eternity

January 12, 2020 6:22 p.m.

VietMoneys says... #19

Hey Aceh, thanks for checking it out. I've thought a lot about that card. The combo potential is obvious, to be sure. The problem is, my build (all 3 power creatures) doesn't self mill at all, so the mana-reduction is contingent on creatures organically ending up in the yard. That is to say, I have to consider the merits of the Cauldron as a 12 CMC card. It's much more elegant than something like Soldevi Digger, but much more expensive. I, for one, feel that a 12-mana card should win the game on the spot. Still, I haven't totally made up my mind. The effect is dope, and I basically run every card in B/R that mentions the bottom of the library. Perhaps I'll goldfish around with it a bit. Thanks for reminding me!

LOVE THIS DECK! o.O Would it be possible for you to make an elaborate description of the different interacitons in your deck? Really enjoy the look of it but I'm kinda on the edge of deciding which new commander to make and I think that would totally seal the deal :D

Hey Cloudsleeper. Thanks for the kind words and interest. Not able to get too elaborate at the moment, but I thought I could offer a little explanation of what it's like to play this deck.

While this deck obviously tries to set up the bottom of the deck whenever possible, it still relies on luck more than your average brew. This "slot-machine" effect makes for some super memorable and exciting plays, particularly because I usually hold off on activating Grenzo each turn cycle until something bad happens (or, ideally, right before your next turn). I destroyed 2 creatures, exiled two others, and forced 4 discarded cards last night with only six mana. Later, I dumped ten mana into Grenzo and hit five lands in a row. This is probably the most important consideration in guessing whether or not you will enjoy playing this deck. Some people would probably find this level of inconsistency infuriating (as would I. likely, if this was my only deck). If you can see why this would be exciting, however, this deck is a delight. It is a one part graveyard deck, one-part a draw-go reactive control, one part elaborate combo machine.

The part of building this deck that I enjoyed the most was designing around the limitations of his ability (whiffing). My self-inflicted restriction of 3 power or less creatures is one approach among many possibilities. Goblin Welder, Yawgmoth's Will, and Crucible of Worlds all allow you to eek value out of these whiffs,. and are thus some of my favorite cards in the deck. Other builds play far less non-creature spells, all goblins, reanimator spells, or aim to make really big Grenzo and drop eldrazi, etc. All of these are valid and fun options, and for the most part, can add up to a strong deck at a very reasonable price.

Hope this helps! Enjoy wrangling your own dungeon, my friend.

I've loved Grenzo since I first saw him and built a deck around him (Darkness from the Dungeon), though I took a different approach and just went agro Vampire tribal, with a ton of scry and bottom of library manipulation to maximize grenzo's effectiveness. It's a simple deck with no combos. I did however reach the epiphany with the aforementioned The Cauldron of Eternity. I feel like that in most games, creatures getting into your graveyard is going to be pretty common...so I don't think of it as a 12 cmc card, more likely its going to end up in the 6-8 range which is acceptable mid-late game. I'm currently in the process of overhauling the deck into a sacrifice build centered around Cauldron. Cant wait to see how it turns out. So many infinite kill combos that can be generated with Cauldron and Ashnod's Altar.

VietMoneys says... #23

I'll look forward to seeing that overhaul, Meeknomore! Personally, I'm still not sold on the Cauldron. Your diagnosis that it could be a 6-8 CMC card may certainly be right, but even then, that's win-the-game territory for a non-creature card in this deck, not mid-game value. It's certainly a great effect for the deck, but one that can be accomplished much more cheaply!

Fire Prophecy for +1 bottomdeck support. having Lightning Strike for removal ain't that bad either

Hey Vietmoneys. I first wanted to say I love the deck list. I am a huge fan of decks that just run synergy and can just kind of trip into combos rather than just playing the same tutors and combos. this is the list I have made, I wanted your opinion on it since you have a similar mentality and clearly know how to run grenzo.
