Everybody gangsta until the spider moves.

This is a theme/gimmick deck that is meant to be played in a semicompetitive environment, be it at your local FNM or with your friends. A spider spins its web strand by strand, likewise, the general strategy of this deck is to play defensively. Cast creatures such as Deadly Recluse and strike once you have the most important card of your deck in play: Assault Formation . This card turns our spiders rather high toughness into power when attacking or blocking. Along with Swarmyard and other combo cards you can control the board and kill off your opponent.

One of the weaknesses of this deck is blue control. I don't want to spend 280 euros for a playset of Cavern of Souls . Therefore, our eight-legged friends are rather susceptible to counter spells, exile effects and bounce cards such as Unsummon . Another weakness is that we don't have room for cards that recycle cards from our graveyard. This deck is also helpless against mill decks, having no counter cards against this archetype.

Flying. This deck is kryptonite against decks that have flying creatures. Spiders having high toughness, this deck is capable of standing its ground against aggressive decks, especially with Swarmyard and Watcher in the Web in play. This deck doesn't utilize key tribal cards such as Door of Destinies or Obelisk of Urd as these cards are way too slow. Instead we use Assault Formation which we can play on turn 3, making our spiders stronger. This deck also has 2 copies of Heroic Intervention for board wipes.

With this deck we play strategically and defensively by playing around creature removal spells with Swarmyard . From experience, Deadly Recluse prevents our opponent from zerg rushing with creatures which gives us time to build up and draw Assault Formation . Play around board wipes with Heroic Intervention and Swarmyard . Most of the time Driven enables us to draw cards and when you can cast the second half, disrupt our opponents hand. If our opponent has too big creatures, a good candidate to attack with is Deadly Recluse or Blightwidow as they don't want to lose a creature when you can simply regenerate yours.

A great option to attach Infiltration Lens to is Blightwidow as this spider coaxes your opponent to block with a creature which results in extra cards for you and a killed or drastically impaired creature. Poison counters are an alternative win condition, hence one copy of Rogue's Passage .

Assault Formation , they key card of this deck which turns all our spiders into formidable creatures and can function as a mana sink when we want to buff our creatures.

Obelisk Spider has great stats and can net us some lifegain along with Blightwidow and ping life from our opponents.

I included 2 Watcher in the Web s. This is a funny card to block with if you have swarmyard out. Potentially blocking 8 creatures every combat phase is not to be overlooked.

When this killer spider Blightwidow strikes, our opponent is bound to block with a creature. Only 10 poison counters and our opponents will bite the dust! This spider is best buddies with Obelisk Spider .

With Infiltration Lens attached to a spider such as Blightwidow it is bound to give you cards, as if 8 eyes weren't enough.

M21 brought us a great spider for our deck: Sporeweb Weaver . Blocking with Sporeweb Weaver will not only grant us 1 life but also a saproling token effectively stalling aggressive decks.

Ishkanah, Grafwidow is our second spider queen. Her delirium ability doesn't hit often but if you draw her late in the game the odds that you trigger delirium is big. Her activated ability is a great means to punish opponents for spiders that didn't had the chance to be regenerated.

Heroic Intervetion can be replaced by Sheltering Word if you are on a budget. This card is exellent against removal spells that we can't play around such as path to exile. Preferably we use this card against board wipes.

What is a spider deck without a Deadly Recluse . A 1/2 death touch reach with wicked flavour text equals auto include.

I included Driven because this deck needs card draw, plus the other half of the card is very neat to play.

I included 2 copies of Naturalize because I feel that in modern you are bound to encounter enchantments and artifacts, this card certainly helped me getting rid of pesky exile enchantments or dangerous artifacts.

Arasta of the Endless Web is our latest addition to our deck. This spider queen has great solid power and toughness for 4 mana and its static ability is a great means to generate more spiders as chump blockers or to attack with.

Any spider that gives us life is a welcome addition to this deck. Sporeweb Weaver is a great counter against aggressive decks.

Silklash Spider is a massive spider with a neat ability for when you want to bully flying creatures even more.

Theros Beyond Death brought us a great addition to our deck: Arasta of the Endless Web. I added two copies of this spider and playtested this upgraded version of the deck in free for all matches with my friends. My friends all run decent modern decks. Her static ability generated a decent amount of spiders who functioned as 2/2 chump blockers and also as an attack force.

M21 brought us Sporeweb Weaver. My friends don't run much blue but her life gain abilities were very nice as people usually block her when I swing with this spider on turn 3 as a 4/4 with Assault Formation out. The tokens only serve as chump blockers.

I am overall content with these additions and I look forward for new spiders.
