Werewolves and Vehicles ... it's kinda like they were made for each other, huh?

Thanks in advance for your comments and suggestions!

WIN-CON: Smash face with Transformed Werewolves: Ulrich, Uncontested Alpha  ; Lambholt Butcher   ; and Vildin-Pack Alpha. They're made even better with pumps from Ashmouth Blade   , Aim High , Blossoming Defense, Arlinn Kord  's +1, Arlinn, Embraced by the Moon   's +1, and Ulrich of the Krallenhorde  ' trigger.

ALTERNATE WIN-CON: Smash face with Fleetwheel Cruiser. Burn face with Arlinn, Embraced by the Moon   's -1 or Emblem.

PREVENT OPPONENT WIN-CONS: Mess with opponent plans by (1) Flashing in Spirit of the Hunt to block (either by itself or by Crewing a vehicle) and buff the team, (2) untapping a Werewolf or Vehicle (after Crewing it), while also adding Reach and a buff with Aim High , and (3) playing Blossoming Defense as needed. Burn Creatures and Planeswalkers with Arlinn, Embraced by the Moon   's -1 or Emblem. Fight Creatures with Ulrich, Uncontested Alpha  .

MOVE TOWARDS THE WIN: Smash and Loot with Smuggler's Copter. Create 2/2 Wolfs with Arlinn Kord  's 0.

GENERAL VALUE: Hermit of the Natterknolls   to mess with Control decks. Village Messenger   for early damage and to Crew Smuggler's Copter.

SIDEBOARD:

PLAYTIPS (SO FAR):

  • Arlinn Kord   comes in with only three Loyalty counters, so cast her very carefully.
  • Arlinn is very versatile, so there's no one best play pattern. When ahead on board though, I tend to +1 (Pump/Vigilance/Haste) her to 6 Loyalty, then 0 (create a 2/2 Wolf) to Transform her, then -6 for the Emblem. When behind on board, I tend to flip back and forth between her front-face 0 (drop a 2/2 Wolf) and her back-face -1 (bolt to Creature or Player).
  • I never really worry about trying to Transform Werewolves. If it happens, cool. If not, there's still plenty of value there.
  • Chandra's Pyrohelix (on the sideboard) can be used on opponents of course, but also on your own team when Silverfur Partisan is on the field.
  • Keep in mind that Transformed Werewolves have different names if they're returned to your hand by a Reflector Mage. For example, if an opponent's Reflector Mage returns Moonrise Intruder   to your hand, you can cast Village Messenger   the next turn.

Thanks also to everyone on the All things Wolven thread. If you're even remotely a Wolf or Werewolf fan you really should drop by sometime. You can also just ...

If you get a chance, I'd love your thoughts on my other Kaladesh Standard brews as well: Bad Beats (KLD - Retired) and Steel-Cannon Pummeler (KLD - Retired).

After tuning the deck for Control match-ups, I didn't play a single Control deck all day! Nevertheless, the deck played nicely and I ended up #12 of 35.

The matches were ...

  • 2-1 vs. RG Artifacts. A really interesting brew, with lots of Vehicles and Artifact Creatures, plus a TON of removal (including Fight cards, which were really good with Narnam Cobra). It was a good match-up though for my deck.
  • 2-0 vs. RG Wolves. A more traditional Werewolf deck, and a very easy match-up.
  • 1-2 vs. Mardu Vehicles. My opponent was running shi-tian-lees-mardu-vehicles-2, and it was a surprisingly good match-up for my deck. All three games were close, and I handed my opponent his only loss in the first five rounds. Just a tiny bit of lifegain would have made all the difference, and I will almost certainly be adding Pulse of Murasa to the sideboard.
  • 2-1 vs. Naya Planeswalkers. Good match-up.
  • 1-2 vs. RG Pummeler. A poor match-up. My deck really needed more removal in the sideboard, and maybe some Commencement of Festivities.
