So I'm a librarian. Ages ago I bought myself a copy of Orcish Librarian to keep at my desk at work, because I just loved the art! And, I thought that the ability was so interesting and should work with something, but I couldn't put my finger on it.
Fast forward to today, when the (EDIT: ex-)BF and I were brainstorming ways to use it, he suggested Slime Against Humanity, and I remembered this deck, which I loved but had set aside due to dreading shuffling lolz.
Two copies of Librarian and some re-balancing of the mana distribution later, and OMFG the playtests are POPPING!! Earlier today I hit one where I got all my Serum Powders in a row at 7, plus a Devourer of Destiny in my opening hand, and had 31 cards exiled by turn 3, including 12 Slimes!! TWELVE!! Orcish Librarian just shreds through the deck if it sticks around, while Faithless Looting and Collected Conjuring still allow for other manipulations/draw to actually cast Slimes and work towards winning!
My alternate wincons are: Hierophant Bio-Titan, a giant big stompy creature likely to be cast for 2 mana, and Hadana's Climb
, which will most likely flip on the turn it comes down, and its transformed land has a crazy awesome ability.
I know my dear Orcish Librarian is not an optimal card for this deck, it's tagged jank for a reason! But I would still love to know what y'all think, and hear your suggestions for improvements!!!
UPDATE 9/7/25:
IT WORKS!!!! OMFG does it work!!! Definitely casual, there was a game we played that I don't even know how many friendly mulligans I took before I even drew a Serum Powder hand...though that could have been down to me being terrible at shuffling! I have quite small hands! But I won my first 1 v 1 game. We played a couple multiplayer games after that and it actually struggled, I'm not used to having a deck that works better 1 v 1 than in multiplayer!
The (EDIT: ex-)BF suggested Laboratory Maniac in initial brainstorming, and I rejected the idea because if I am in a position to exile it, like with Serum Powder, that will create a really awkward moment where I need to make a decision. But it's not really a decision, if the card is exiled, it's exiled, you take the exile every time. Anyway. I didn't quite think that the deck has the potential to really need the Lab Maniac, but in one of the longer multiplayer games, I ended the game with 11 cards left in my library. It could very easily have been fewer, I had an Orcish Librarian on the field I could have activated for like, 5 turns. Jeeze, it can just SHRED through the deck!!! And then you can use the flashback on Faithless Looting to get the last bit of draw you need to activate the Maniac!
So, maybe I do add one single Lab Maniac! I think I'd replace Hierophant Bio-Titan with it, sadly. I felt like it was sitting in my hand dead, I didn't feel comfortable casting it like ever. I think it comes down on the side of "win more" in this particular deck. I also don't think that I need to mess with the mana base much in order to add it even though it's another card that requires blue!
What do you guys think?
UPDATE 9/27/25:
My BF broke up with me! Oh well!
I'm still gonna be playtesting his Lab Maniac suggestion!
