Minor Tweaks —Sept. 29, 2022

So taking into consideration some suggestions and my own musings, I'm trying a few minor edits.

Liliana of the Dark Realms and Murderous Rider are getting swapped out for Rings of Brighthearth and Malakir Rebirth  Flip.

The thought process is that the Rings synergize with a number of pieces in the deck which allows us to relatively cheaply double dip on various effects, in addition to opening up the possibility of a combo with Cabal Coffers and Deserted Temple. While the Rebirth gives us cheap protection for Sheoldred, as well as a backup land option if we're running a little dry on land drops.

While we lose the reliable fetch from Lili, her removal is only likely to be able to be used once, effectively making her a 4 cost single removal piece which isn't that vital here. Dropping the Rider was kind of tough as I really like it as a black removal piece, serving the dual purpose of creature/planeswalker removal and being a lifelink body with recursion. It may return in the future, but for now it's out.

Great deck that I will draw some inspiration from!

I see that you play very little protection for Sheoldred; moreover, your land count is a little lowish (I tend to feel uncomfortable as soon as I am running less than 36, but you might be running enough draw to get away with it). May I suggest Malakir Rebirth  Flip to tackle both issues at once? Occasionally the tapped land might hurt, but blanking any removal (be it board wipe or spot removal) has proven incredibly valuable for me!

Potential inclusions....

Malakir Rebirth  Flip - Like above user suggested

Imp's Mischief - Similar to above but much more flexible. This can redirect targetted removal, draw, extra turns and more.

Potential cuts....

Lili PW - Doesn't do much to promote your gameplan. First ability is nice but doesnt ramp you very well and does not trigger commander. It's second ability is costly removal and given you are playing black, you already have plenty of removal. It's ult isn't reliably available (no doubling season).

Also curious, why is basalt in the maybeboard? Is it for the potential rings combo? If so, wouldn't Rings + Coffers + Deserted temple be sufficient enough, or do you feel you would utilize the mana ability of basalt rather than relying/hoping to draw into deserted temple.

Sersorias I'll definitely consider the rebirth for an add. Personally, I've found my commander land sweet spot to be between 34-36 depending on CMC. Since this deck has managed to stay under 3.00, I've opted to go with my lower end of the curve as I am generally good so long as I start with 2 lands in hand, which is still statistically likely at 34.

I've been considering more protection for her, so another piece that has mixed utility is definitely a potential include.

Profet93 The mischief has been in the maybeboard and will definitely remain under consideration! It's a great card.

Lili is definitely my top contender for a cut if I do swap. Basalt monolith has served me very well in the past, even lacking an infinite combo to abuse with it. Rings of brighthearth is the more likely include for sure as it can get me double duty out of pieces like Otherworld Atlas in additi.on to your aforementioned combos, it's really just a good utility piece (plus I have a spare copy in a binder somewhere).

We who are building Sheoldred decks need to stick together. I would very gently suggest a few creatures that are in the synergy, such as Bloodgift Demon, Defiant Bloodlord, Epicure of Blood, Marauding Blight-Priest, or Psychosis Crawler. If you have the time, please return the favor and put a few eyes on my deck too?

ladygaura of the bunch, I'd be most inclined to consider the Blight priest or the Crawler. Just generally trying to keep the mana curve low to keep it efficient and to hopefully be able to play as many cards (and draw as much) as possible per turn.

Thanks for the suggestions

Why isn't Marauding Blight-Priest in here. This kind of effect stacks very well. Tons of life loss over the long run.

griffstick yeah it's being considered since it was suggested by ladygaura as well.

I do appreciate it. If anyone new wants to look over my decklist and see what the heck can be done to really improve its rating, please come over to Sheoldred's Dream Drainer and have a look around.
