Dark Depths and Battlebond! —June 7, 2018

Hey all! Some big edits today. And Battle Reports!

First, a review of some recent games with the original list! I started playing at a new LGS, and my first game with Sek'Kuar proved disappointing. Opponents were Gisa and Geralf zombie tribal, Zedruu the Greathearted Hug, and Liliana, Heretical Healer  Flip discard build. The two zombie decks started off hot, both Sol Ring into plays. Zedruu durdled as is tradition. I had a decent hand, playing Burgeoning into at least 3 more land drops, but mostly utility lands and no black sources for Phyrexian Arena stranded in my hand. As such, I sat around for most of the game drawing black spells I could not cast!

At some point I was able to Crop Rotation for Glacial Chasm in response to a lethal zombie army, which was pretty badass, but I had no way to abuse my protected position and eventually had to let it drop. I pretty much disengaged from the game after a live Bottomless Pit stripped me of resources and I never drew out of it, dieing to Megrim type effects. Bleh!

I also played multiple 1v1 games with flawless results. These taught me many things about the deck, which was super cool. Some highlights: -Tutored up Natural Affinity into Insurrection ftw -Kamahl, Fist of Krosa pumping Inkmoth Nexus 4 times through a blocker ftw -Zealous Conscripts a Propaganda, Life / Death my board and sac away with Sek'Kuar, Deathkeeper in play to swing for the win. -Jokulhaups away our boards with Cryptolith Rite in play and grind out a win over next few turns with the resource advantage.

Very cool stuff! I learned some lessons: -New LGS and playgroup, they are cool with MLD but cutting Jokulhaups because I want to try new things anyway -Kamahl, Fist of Krosa is awesome but sooo resource intensive and often will not work with heavier disruption of my plans. -BIGGEST TAKEAWAY - my colored sources are way screwed up. BIG revamp of the mana base, cutting low impact utility lands for colored sources and upping Green/Black sources considerably. -Dark Depths I made the plunge! -Insist Cantrips are amazing and undervalued as inclusions. I have started including what I consider to be high impact cantrips across almost all my decks. A brief list of awesome Cantrips for those interested: Insist, Overmaster, Scout's Warning, Expedite, Crimson Wisps, Quicken, Cremate, Nihil Spellbomb, Slip Through Space, Shelter, Gitaxian Probe, Peek - all reasonable options that add some free velocity to the deck while giving varying degrees of usefulness!

Cuts: Cabal Coffers, Geier Reach Sanitarium, Jokulhaups, Ulvenwald Hydra, Beast Within, Entomb, Blood Artist, Kamahl, Fist of Krosa, Sea Gate Wreckage, Crystal Vein, Dunes of the Dead, Mountain, Swamp, Tectonic Edge

Adds: Memorial to Folly, Thespian's Stage, Dark Depths, Rites of Flourishing, Pir's Whim, Vampiric Tutor, Insist, Craterhoof Behemoth, Path of Ancestry, Woodland Cemetery, Llanowar Wastes, Twilight Mire, Forest, Hissing Quagmire

Dig the game-report model of tracking the deck's performance. Keep up the good work!

@harbingerofduh

Thanks! Glad you like the style!

It really helps me to keep a log of games to look back on and recall why certain changes have been made. Plus it's fun reading!
