ZNR Update —Sept. 18, 2020

Samut gets some nice new toys from the new Zendikar set. Here are my thoughts on the contenders:

  • Moraug, Fury of Akoum: moraug is the 4th card that provides additional combat steps while also untapping all creatures. Although we do not have a lot of land-based ramp spells, Sakura-Tribe Scout and Llanowar Scout can get pretty nuts with Moraug. Combined with a land like Gruul Turf we can get as many attack phases as we can untap these scouts in our main phase. Knight of the Reliquary and Captain Sisay also allow us to get our landfall triggers each turn. Very potent card and excited to include it in this deck.

Honorable mention

  • Ashaya, Soul of the Wild: this card turns all our creatures into mana dorks and allows some interesting shenanigans in this deck. We can use our lands untappers, like Voyaging Satyr on creatures now, making those cards more flexible. Ley Weaver and Argothian Elder even get you infinite mana with this card, as one of the “lands” untapping can be the creature itself. However, outside of those uses, Ashaya is just a big beatstick in this deck, and it does not really gel with the main plan outside of those single cards. Right now I think its just a big distraction :), but I might try it out later to test its worth.
