Deathfang was stunned watching hellhole aka the living cannon ball 'retaliate' to his manipulations. After all, Deathfang's whole life was built on having others sacrifice things they care about. What was he to do with Hellhole? He was delighted and willing to sacrifice his own things without Deathfang's influence.

In terms of synergy, This is one of the best Pauper EDH Generals. Dimir colors naturally complement and amplify what Deathfang wants to do. Blue fills up your hand and recycles spells from your graveyard, and Black Sacrifices the creatures and recycles the creatures. Also SuperDeath creatures feel almost criminal in a pauper format. We also luck out with black getting 4 of the 6 total pauper 'wrath' effects (The other two are Bloodfire Infusion and Swirling Sandstorm. This insures we wipe the board of weenie creatures that are not worth our sacrafice.
