After reading Rat Colony I realized that it had the potential to be better than Relentless Rats, especially in a deck that could protect them or provide good evasion. With Marchesa, the Black Rose as a commander my rats become nearly indestructible to everything which takes care of the one significant downside on them. Now that the real issue has been taken care of you can start to abuse the fact that Rat Colony is one black mana cheaper than Relentless Rats, allowing them to grow faster and larger. Now that you are in Grixis, rather than the average mono black rat tribal deck you are given more options such as counter spells and better draw.

Fling, Foul-Tongue Shriek, and Tainted Strike provide possibilities for one drop wins that aren't going to be expected.

Infinite Combos: Marrow-Gnawer + Thornbite Staff + a permanent providing a +1 bonus to the power of rats = INFINITE 1/1 RATS!!!!!
