Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths —May 23, 2020
Haven't made many changes to Riku in a while. Felt like time for a proper review and deck refresh.
Added
- Farseek, because it's slightly cheaper to cast than Cultivate.
- Farhaven Elf, for the abusable ETB ramp.
- Coiling Oracle, for the abusable ETB ramp/card advantage.
- Arcane Signet, who doesn't want the second best mana rock?
- Agent of Treachery, can't wait to trigger this ETB more than once.
- Spellseeker, to grab great removal and tutor spells.
- Mystic Snake, for another counterspell-type effect I can copy.
- Twinning Staff, for even more copies.
- Mythos of Illuna, another way to double a Doubling Season :D
- Forest, as another coloured source I can tutor for.
- Ketria Triome, as a better Frontier Bivouac.
Removed
- Cultivate, replacing with Farseek just for the lower cost.
- Rattleclaw Mystic, I'd rather an ETB ramp creature I can abuse with flicker.
- Sakura-Tribe Elder, ditto.
- Chromatic Lantern
- Artisan of Kozilek, never had the impact I hoped for. Agent of Treachery will be better.
- Guided Passage
- Swiftfoot Boots
- Mirror Image
- Cackling Counterpart
- Reliquary Tower, I'm fine to discard down to 7 if I happen to have too many cards. Coloured mana is more important.
- Frontier Bivouac, not as good as a Ketria Triome.

Any interest in Sundial of the Infinite? I noticed you have a couple of the red copiers that sac themselves at the end of turn on a trigger. Sundial gets around this, and would allow you to include additional versions such as Splinter Twin.
Naturally it opens up some other avenues such as the Pacts, albeit they aren't as thematic as you might be looking. Just a thought, and ultimately I love the deck!

Nice deck! I'm coming back around to Riku as I'm entering a new city and playgroups. I wanted something that could react to the board state and win in many different ways so that's Riku. Plus it's just fun for me to play. I like that you do not try to rely heavily on artifacts, I went that route too and prefer to see how many spells and creatures I can pack in, with some light reinforcement from enchantments and artifacts.

Solid update. I am back to re-tooling Riku and I like your "I have answers for the boardstate" setup.
The only thing I would think to add would be Mystic Snake. I love Glen Elendra but you have so many copy effects sitting around that landing a mystic snake would be a fun counter/threat potential. Especially with kiki jiki in play.

Mirage Mirror! Holy moly, what utility! It won't net me any ETB triggers (sadness) but I could copy Panharmonicon and get 3x the ETB triggers per creature. Or make an extra copy of Doubling Season, or duplicate any creature, including an opponent's. I took out Crystal Shard to make room for it. The shard was a neat idea but never really had the effect I hoped it would.
Also, I tossed in a Worldly Tutor, removing Prime Speaker Zegana. I liked Zegana's card draw effect, but it required me to have a decent board state already - so was a little "win more." Also, her Legendary status prevented me from truly abusing her in this deck. Be gone!
