Sideboard

Maybeboard

This deck has gone through many iterations, but at this point this archtype remains the premier Blood Moon deck in the format, since powering it out on turn 2 does not allow much counterplay before opponents are locked out of mana (assuming they are not base red).

MH2 has drastically changed how the deck functions, allowing for free spells and interaction via Fury and Endurance. If you find yourself mana-screwed often, add the 22nd land in place of Klothys, but the addition of Wrenn and Six means that I can often get away with just 21 lands. Bloodbraid Elf and Seasoned Pyromancer are the main card advantage engines, while Chandra and W&6 also provide advantages. Lightning Bolt and Bonecrusher Giant provide early game removal while never being dead draws in the matchups that you don't need them. A good pilot of this deck can handle almost any metagame if you prepare for it.

See my tournament reports below! I hope to continue the winning trend with this deck!

After trying out a bunch of meta decks since the release of modern horizons 2, I decided to return to this list at a local modern event with bigger prizes than your normal FNM. I felt that the local meta would be somewhat weak against blood moon since many people play Tron, amulet titan, etc. when larger prizes are at stake.

Round 1 vs Eldrazi Tron- he won the die roll which decided the first game, as he landed a chalice on 1 turn 2 before I could deploy my hand full of 1cmc cards. Game 2 I came out swinging, getting an early board presence and dealing with his karn tGC before he could stabilize. Game 3 I landed a turn 2 magus, which slowed him enough to deploy my threats and beat down.

Round 2 vs Mill- A turn 2 moon locked my opponent out in game one, and he was only able to trap me once before the game ended. Game 2 I kept an aggressive hand but no moon. My library was almost empty after 4 turns though since he found 2 traps, but in a very lucky cascade off of BBE I hit an endurance and shuffled my GY back to the bottom of my deck which put the game out of reach for him.

Round 3 vs Humans- I lost a close game 1, but he was running collected companies instead of vials, and I didn't see enough interaction to stop him. Game 2 on the play I had the turn 2 moon which got me there. Game 3 he had a turn 2 meddling mage which named moon, but I had my SB magus in hand for my turn 2, and then cleared his board with a fury the next turn which drew the concession.

Round 4 vs UR Murktide- I was the only undefeated player, and prizes were given as a draft based on placement so I had to play it out. This is normally a tough matchup depending on if they land a Murktide with protection, which is why I devoted 2 SB slots to the Run Afouls. Game 1 I had Ragavan into W&6 plus cycle land, which drew me a few cards before he killed my W&6 and monkey. I was able to draw lots of gas and take care of his board with a fury before he landed a Murktide. Fortunately I was able to go wide for the win. Game 2 we both flooded heavily for most of the game. However I landed a BBE with a W&6 out and started the beats. He played a torpor orb which shut off my 1-turn too late pyromancer, and a combination of arbor elves and small creature beats eventually got me there while he wasn't able to get delirium or draw anything more impactful than burn spells for quite a while.

I was able to take home a sealed box of zendikar rising, but in hind sight I should have taken the single MH2 collector pack, as it had an old boarder non-etched foil force of negation. I'm not enough of a gambler I guess. However this event did prove to me that this deck can still compete, especially with the addition of the MH2 cards.
