9th update, time for Battlebondage —July 8, 2018

+Morphic Pool, Rolling Earthquake, Flusterstorm, Mr. Fayden, Praetor's Grasp, Dispel, Bonus Round, Rite of Flame, Blood Crypt, Copy Artifact
-Mana Leak, Isochron Scepter, Grim Tutor, Cyclonic Rift, Counterspell, Lim-Dûl's Vault, Swamp, Candelabra of Tawnos, Toxic Deluge, Ancient Tomb

Wow that's a lot of card swaps what on earth happened here?
Well here's the non-meta dependant changes:
+Mr. Fayden, Bonus Round, Rite of Flame, Blood Crypt, Copy Artifact
-Isochron Scepter, Lim-Dûl's Vault, Candelabra of Tawnos, Ancient Tomb, (Mana Leak)

Long story short the resident stax players and midrange players that I had teched against moved to grinding other formats so it's Naus mirror time. Obviously cutting cards like Cyclonic Rift isn't for everyone but when everyone is playing a variant of storm/Trashios scepter Disperse isn't that good. The interaction package should always be meta-dependant and Counterspell over Dispel is always a thing if there's less instants and more other stuff that you want to counter. You probably noticed how I've shaved one hard counter/interaction slot, and in a faster meta where Fluster and Dispel are efficient answers playing less of a control game and being greedy yourself with fast Jelevas is a thing.

Anyway the Isochron Scepter/Dramatic Reversal combo is out, the combo really shined when playing against control but against pretty much everything else the combo isn't that worth it, we're full of good payout lines already and Dramatic Reversal is a ritual that by itself makes or breaks a lot of storm turns so saving that for the combo doesn't usually happen, and if it does well that means we were super ahead/the mass draw was insane. Dack is back in because I really like Doomsday and Dack has great synergy with it, and Dack is actually a really good card in Nauseam mirrors. Stealing a Sol Ring or a Mana Crypt can easily cripple one player while gaining you mana,as awkward as it looks its one of the cards I most want to see in a storm mirror.

Lim-Dûl's Vault is out for Bonus Round, a tutor that usually costs a lot of life, is card disadvantage and isn't even 1 mana wasn't great to begin with and Bonus Round gives us a neat new payout line to go for. Bonus Round has lots of cool lines to go for that aren't super cryptic, I won't type any here because they're just fun to come up on your own.

Candelabra of Tawnos for Rite of Flame, Candelabra being a very expensive card doesn't mean that it's necessarily good and when decks have become more and more optimized it means that having a lot of islands in play when you finally go off isn't that common. I had always thought that Candelabra was the worst ritual still worth playing thanks to all the small interactions it had like being funny against Winter Orb or giving access to a t2 Jeleva when paired with Sol Ring or Mana Crypt, but Rite of Flame helps when ramping into early Jelevas too, it's a ritual more often plus it's a bit of a concession to Bonus Round since the RR in B-Round's mana cost is kind of restrictive sometimes. Even without Bonus Round I've liked the swap so if you own a Candelabra well that sucks :P

Ancient Tomb for Blood Crypt. Tomb without the "ALL THE 2CMC ROCKS" package has felt awkward for a decent while and now I've finally made the swap. With Bonus Round in the deck I've found myself fetching Badlands kind of often so Blood Crypt was probably the best land to replace it with. Yell about Tomb being a staple all you want, this is the change I'm most sure is just correct.

Copy Artifact for an interaction spell, maybe this is more of a meta change now that I think about it since early/tutored vintage rocks are now more common, but Copy Artifact also functions as a ritual sometimes so doing double duty as ramp + ritual is always good.

The rest is just meta changes, Grasp over Grim because a lot of people are playing cards I'd like to fetch + topdeck tutor pass is semi-common right now so Grasp is hilarious against that. Like PiF Grasp works now as a 3rd copy of the best card in the deck, however if no one is playing anything relevant keep jamming Grim (or don't jam it since everyone except me seems to hate the card).

Hi Rev! Been trying to play against a chain veil teferi deck and have not been having good results. Do you any advice or approach to play Jeleva against a deck like that?

Really depends on their draw, however a good way to approach the match is by not trying to jam the combo but trying to grind value and riding Jeleva to victory to avoid their counter/stax package. Since honestly I haven't had much problems when playing against Teferi I can't really say what my strategy is apart from don't be dumb, but if you want to you can easily tech against the deck by slotting in the other red blast and/or By Force. Teferi as itself isn't really problematic I think but when combined with other specific decks the mono-U midrange easily 2v1's us, however if it's just Teferi since the Grixis Lady is one of the best cards in the matchup trying to tech against it too hard isn't worth it.

Thanks, Rev! I also noticed that the best approach against the deck is just to play the long game. Eventually, teferi has no more interaction and you just need to stop their win conditions. Again, thank you for your big help. What do you think of Precognition Field from dominaria?

I don't like Precognition Field, it can't be used in the Future Top combo, doesn't combo the same way with Doomsday and not being able to play lands and mana rocks hurts. It's kind of an awkward in-between of Future Sight and some other cheaper/easier to cast grind card like Dack Fayden or Fact or Fiction, and competing with Jeleva at the 4cmc slot isn't ideal either.

why not grapeshot and elixer of immortality to help it deal with artifact hate and milling out?

Artifact hate like Null Rod isn't a problem because it stops Aetherflux Reservoir, it's a problem because it stops my mana rocks from working. On the combo turn finding a Chain of Vapor or Cyclonic Rift isn't hard. Grapeshot would be fine as a 3rd wincon, however Sentinel Tower from Battlebond fills that role better than Grapeshot since it's better as random creature removal and it works as a wincon without Grapeshot-Unsub-Grapeshot-Yawgwin-Grapeshot-Unsub-Grapeshot.

No one plays infinite mill so Elixir of Immortality is just trash.
