Release the Freefolk!

Casual Aggro Midrange Tribal

Instant (7)

A Green with White/Black splash Treefolk aggro deck. Matches up very well against other aggro and midrange decks.

The goal of this deck is to produce lots of Treefolk for free with kinship-ability cards like Leaf-Crowned Elder and Descendants' Path with either an infinite life combo or by out-smashing your opponent with the power-aid of Garruk Wildspeaker.

Recommended turn order:

Turn 1: You want to consistently lay down a Treefolk Harbinger every game. Not only do you get to search for key cards, you have a fantastic 0/3 blocker in play. Search for Bosk Banneret, Leaf-Crowned Elder , or Orchard Warden

Turn 2: Bosk Banneret is pretty good to have here, since it allows you to play your key card, Leaf-Crowned Elder .

Turn 3: Leaf-Crowned Elder needs to be played as soon as possible. If you need to put him out turn 4 instead so you can use an Avoid Fate, then do so. The Elder makes sure your Treefolk come out for free. If you want to wait for the Elder, consider casting Descendent's Path for more free treefolk, or Dauntless Dourbark for early-game aggro.

Turn 4 and after: If you haven't played L-CE, play it this turn. If you have, use Sensei's Divining Top and/or Sylvan Library to influence your top-of-library shenanigans. Afterwards, focus on getting out good cards like Orchard Warden or Unstoppable Ash . Garruk Wildspeaker can help you hardcast your Treefolk using his +1 ability, or give them the necessary boost to kill with his -4.

Deal with creature threats with Putrefy, non-creature threats with Wickerbough Elder , flying with Gravity Well, creature hate with Timber Protector, and graveyard shenanigans with Tormod's Crypt. Fog is good against massive aggro decks like Zoo, RDW, and Slivers.

A neat little combo is when you kinship a Treefolk Harbinger . When he comes into play, his search goes on the stack, so you can pretty much tutor up a Treefolk, put it on top, then activate your other kinship cards to play it for free.

Another neat interaction is when you cast Unstoppable Ash , champion a Harbinger. That way, when the Ash leaves, you can tutor another card.

Another combo is much harder to pull off, but not as difficult as it seems. If you have an Orchard Warden out, you can champion out a Harbinger with Unstoppable Ash . Nab another Ash and champion out the first Ash, bringing back the Harbinger to search for the third Ash. You gain 8 life (5 for Ash, 3 for Harbinger). Bring the third Ash in and champion the 2nd Ash for an infinite life combo. You can end this combo at any time by championing a Harbinger.

After 32 casual games, I can honestly say this is a really solid deck. After a really fast and brutal beatdown on the first game, most of the players I went against shifted to responding to my treefolk with removal and counters. This is where the deck kind of faults, but nonetheless won 19 games out of the 32 recorded games I played. Over Christmas, I decided to spend my extra money on a pair of Sensei's Divining Tops, and the fit was perfect, taking out the Putrefys. I also removed Garruk completely, replacing him with Wheel of Sun and Moon, since mill was a very legitimate concern.
