Yarok, the Desecrated, evil elemental of death and destruction? or just a misunderstood eco-warrior? This is a lands deck with a graveyard subtheme that lets you recycle your lands for maximizing landfall triggers, or ETB effects from the lands themselves.

Also, a sultai goodstuffs deck that lets me play 5 of my favorite commanders in a single deck: Yarok, the Desecrated, Muldrotha, the Gravetide, Tasigur, the Golden Fang, The Gitrog Monster, and Tatyova, Benthic Druid (the only commander without a 'the' in its name).

All these commanders lead to a good lands style deck with some graveyard shenanigans. So the deck plays by trying to mill yourself and recur or play lands from your graveyard with big finishers being Splendid Reclamation or Scapeshift or even better using both with an Ob Nixilis, the Fallen on the battlefield. Another win-con includes tons of token creatures made from either Field of the Dead or Avenger of Zendikar to do traditional beat down. Theft is another way to win using Roil Elemental and stringing together as many lands as you can. Life from the Loam does A TON of work, allowing you to both mill and get lands back from the grave and is even better when you can play multiple lands with Azusa, Lost but Seeking.

Card advantage is gained in a number of ways. The big three draw engines are; Tatyova, Benthic Druid, The Gitrog Monster, and Sire of Stagnation. River Kelpie gains an honorable mention here as well. Tatyova and Sire triggers will be doubled by Yarok, and while the Gitrog triggers will not be doubled up the deck does enough mill and land sacrifice that you will be drawing a ton of cards from it.

Another form of card advantage is from the graveyard. Milling with cards like Hermit Druid, or World Shaper then reclaiming them with the likes of Muldrotha, the Gravetide, or Tasigur, the Golden Fang. Continuing with the land strategy, cards like Crucible of Worlds and Ramunap Excavator will help recur any key lands to the battlefield.

Manabond is the sleeper of this deck. Once you have a solid recursion engine available for all non-lands, the ability to throw all your lands onto the field is one of the most powerful things you can do. Mix this with Life from the Loam, and you are able to throw down at least 3 lands every end-step. Making them lands like Mortuary Mire or Mystic Sanctuary to recur needed cards from the grave is some added value as well.

Evolving Wilds type lands in this deck are also used for some control, utilizing them to tap big threats before combat using Retreat to Coralhelm. They can also be used to damage attacking creatures with Dread Presence

Imagine this, you draw all lands and a single enchantment for your turn zero draws. In any other deck, this would be an instant mulligan but in this deck, that enchantment is Manabond. You now have a full grip and a dream, and that dream is to go to zero cards in hand by the end of your first turn. You play any land that makes green mana and then you tap it. Everyone at the table groans, thinking you have a turn one Sol Ring, but you have a more heinous plan in mind. You throw down Manabond, the table sighs in relief, that is until you throw down the other five to six lands in your hand onto the field. Your opponents have a mix of expressions ranging from confusion to jealousy to disgust as they realize you have a turn two Yarok, the Desecrated play. Sure you have no hand now, but you don't care, you'll top-deck almost a full new hand by the time other players catch up. Sure, maybe that one other non-land card in hand went to the grave. But who cares, this is a graveyard deck. You now have enough lands out by turn two to play any card in this deck, go nuts.

A fun example, from a recent game I played, of how the deck works is having Azusa, Lost but Seeking Ramunap Excavator and Zuran Orb out. I would sac three lands, gain 6 life, then replay all those lands from the grave. This leads to crazy amounts of ETB effects from landfall triggers, or from the lands themselves. With a single evolving wilds and this setup, I could get 6 landfall triggers and 3 extra basics on the battlefield in one turn. with Yarok, the Desecrated out that would be 12 triggers for any landfall effect. The value this deck produces is in one word, CRAZY.

Keep in mind, there is a Strip Mine in this build, mainly for destroying Itlamoc, Cradle of the Sun or just as a way to sac your own lands, but using the above combo with an Azusa, Lost but Seeking and a Ramunap Excavator you could destroy 3 lands a turn. Now I'm aware of the unwritten social contract of commander, but when someone doesn't realize this jank synergy, and they're gloating they have the game in the bag... It can be satisfying to knock them down a peg. Now, if you want to really be mean you can do that whole set up with a Sire of Stagnation out. If you destroy one of each of your opponent's lands then they have to decide if playing land to stay where they are is worth the value you will gain.

This trick only works once, but Tempt with Discovery can be used to bring out Dark Depths and Thespian's Stage. Having a 20/20 Indestructible Flyer for only two mana by turn 5 is pretty fun. On top of that, there are many ways to recur lands, so recuring Thespian's Stage and Dark Depths back to the battlefield to make another 20/20 if needed is possible. Keep in mind, Dark Depths is a legendary land so the minute you copy it you will need to sack it due to the legendary rule.

The only infinite combo I have found in this deck is Tatyova, Benthic Druid, Lotus Cobra, any land sac ability such as Zuran Orb and Mystic Sanctuary casting a Splendid Reclamation. It works like this: First, cast Splendid Reclamation after sacing all lands beforehand. Second, lands ETB and Mystic Sanctuary targets splendid reclamation in the grave, which then goes to top of library. Tatyova triggers and you draw splendid reclamation again. Lotus cobra has a ton of mana on it now so you can recast splendid reclamation. This can cause you to draw out, or get as many landfall ETBs as you need to win. However, if you don't win that turn Tatyova will cause you to draw out and you will lose so have either a Retreat to Hagra or Ob Nixilis, the Fallen out in play to win.

I'm pretty sure you could also make a similar infinite loop as above with Archaeomancer, but I have yet to find it.

Notable exclusions include things like Rampant Growth or Cultivate as I wanted the deck to rely on the graveyard mechanics for ramping by killing and recuring creatures such as Wood Elves, Farhaven Elf, or Springbloom Druid to abuse their ETB multiple times. Depending on how consistent this style plays out, I may add these at a later date cutting a few less crucial recursion pieces like Phyrexian Delver or Phyrexian Reclamation.

Maybe-board includes lands that could be situationally useful or that I just don't want to shell out cash for yet. Obviously fetch lands are a future include, but $60 for any land is... excessive... Anywho, Maze of Ith is good against Voltron styles, and you could even use it to help others avoid a big hit to gain political favor. Glacial Chasm can be used to keep any beatings down to a minimum. I also feel like Thawing Glaciers could be used for some jank land synergies, but I'm still working on what would be fun for that.

This deck is my favorite deck, and I have been crafting it for a few years now. So, Thanks for taking time to check it out!
