Does your comanders ability qualify as a mana ability?

Homelessguy says... #2

TheNocholas sure does. Which makes it a little bit harder for people to stop me.

Your deck looks solid. Any advice I have would be situational. Is there anything you are having. Trouble with?

I'm looking for anything that helps me go get artifacts or equipment. Stoneforge Mystic,Enlightened Tutor and Open the Armory was all I could think of.

Alhammarret's Archive fits your commander well and would draw you two to one. Could help get your pieces fast enough.

[User:TheNocholas] thanks I was looking for something to replace Aetherflux Reservoir.

I think that is a good switch. Have you looked up your commander in Edhrec? They have breakdowns of the most used cards, and averages for each card type.

TheNocholas after taking a look, I found Recruiter of the Guard that I can use for a tutor effect to getStoneforge Mystic

Awesome! Edhrec is great. I also use gamepedia mtg wiki and the card database on wizards of the coast. Mtg wiki helps when looking for certain terms. Wizards site is good for very broad or very narrow searches.

Alright! Thanks for giving me the chance to look over this primer. Here's how I'll do it: I'll post some line-by-line comments, give you a chance to copy/paste my feedback onto your computer, and then I'll delete my post once you give me the go-ahead. (I don't want to leave a wall of text on your deck, especially when a random user might think I'm just bashing your sweet deck rather than proofreading.)

  1. This deck is sweet! Love the thematic elements of Elves, combined with some robust combos. Just had to get that out of the way first(:

  2. It's "Parley" with an E, not "Parlay." (You spelled it this way a couple times, including the deck's title.) Unless you're going for a pun on "par-tay," I guess.

  3. From a visual perspective, I'd employ the Spoiler syntax to make your primer a little less wall-of-text-y. Check out my primer Blood-Braided Beatdown (Primer) for what this can look like. I went with card-by-card explanations (which was a mistake in retrospect), but at first glance, my primer looks smaller than yours, which can help draw in readers. You can find spoiler syntax by hovering your mouse on the icons above your deck description box. I think natural places to put spoilers would be where you have the huge words. "You know what they say...", "The Combos", "The Setup", "Other decks".

  4. I really like the logical flow of this primer. You draw in your readers by telling them how you'll win, with Selesnya mill of all things! (Keep that "hook" outside of any spoilers, so it's the first thing readers see, even if that means you have to repeat yourself slightly.) Now they're hooked, and you give them more by describing the combos in detail, and then describing the redundancy and tutors you've built in. Your strength is in how you cut to the chase and keep it short and interesting.

  5. Clean up the visuals by using medium-sized text as subheaders within spoilers, rather than lots of equals signs of normally sized text.

  6. As far as the nitty-gritty grammar goes, you're pretty close. I think most of the flaws just came from typing the primer on your phone (we've all been there). Stuff like no capital letter at the beginning of a sentence, no spaces before and after parentheses, auto-correct mistakes, etc. The way to fix this is to re-read your work, backwards. Reading each sentence normally, but from bottom to top, helps your brain see mistakes that you'd normally ignore. I won't spell each grammar mistake out for you, because the practice is good & it's obvious you're a skilled writer with a good grasp of English grammar; it's just hard to type on a phone.

  7. Thanks again! Hmu when you're ready for another round of revision and I'll do my best to help! Feel free to reply with any questions or feedback for me, too! Cheers!

So I hope you notice, that you can mill your opponents to death. All at once really. LMFAO! but for your first combo. There is no point in the Angel's Grace I don't think,(in that combo but it is beautiful in your deck)but if you could just add Elixir of Immortality I don't think you'll have a single problem in this deck.

bwanabeast5 yeah, my second line in the description says that this is a competitive Mill deck. I even put mill in the tags for it. ( I'm thinking about selesnya Mill in the decks name but I'm afraid people will skim over thinking it's a joke)

And yeah it's not necessary but sometimes when people Mulligan down they have more cards in their deck then me and I can end up accidentally giving them the win.( it's happened twice now..lol)

And having it let's me just say now I parley 500 times to allow for a little bit faster play.

I understand. But I feel that Elixir of immortality would be a great addition as a back up plan. I love it, it's really well made. I also have a Comp deck, but its budget. here take a look, iz fun!!! Tatyova Take Ova.

Might I suggest Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite + Kamahl, Fist of Krosa?

Great field disruption, you get an anthem from Norn, overrun from Kamahl, not to mention that his ability makes people fear boardwipes.

WanderingSpirit while both cards are extremely good they're just too expensive Mana wise.

I'm trying to go off as soon as possible and I'm afraid that these cards would just be in my hand.

Have you tried Archangel of Thune?

July 21, 2018 9:52 p.m.

Homelessguy says... #18

Low-key_loki yeah when I first made the deck she was in and did amazing with Spike Feeder! But as I get away with life gain to focus on tutors and Mana ramp I ended up taking her out.

This is great! you have some great synergy in this deck. Maybe a Sword of the Paruns and if we want to have some fun with the Parley... how about Uba Mask.

July 24, 2018 1:28 p.m.

Homelessguy says... #20

Kholek thanks, it took me awhile to get it down. the first draft was all about life gain and then it was all about stacks and pillow forts.

Neither one satisfied me so then I decided to sit down and make it a combo deck( which is my wheelhouse I really should have just started there)

But for the suggestions the sword is a little bit too man intensive when I'm trying to close the game before Turn 6.

And The Mask helps my opponents and because I'm playing it at my competitive Friday Night Magic Commander tournaments there's a lot of spot removal that I don't want them to hit.

Have you considered the combo Midnight Guard with Presence of Gond? With mana dorks, can hit by turn 3. Nets infinite elf tokens (good for Marwyn). Or with Cathars' Crusade for infinitely big creatures.

August 23, 2018 10:27 p.m.

Homelessguy says... #24

Firegriff that's a solid combo in almost any format. But with my most of my deck geared towards tutoring equipments, I would have to rework the deck to also get enchantments for me to be consistent with that.

Cloudstone Curio and either Instill Energy/Nature's Chosen and any cheap enchantment go infinite with Selvala, and all of the cards are useful on their own, for instance Instill/Chosen help parley more, and Cloudstone can easily go infinite with Paradox Engine!
