A Karn, Silver Golem combo deck.

How about a nice bowl of Karn Flakes ?

Removed some convoluted combos and meme cards, added stuff from the past 5 years.
The deck was going everywhere without a focussed gameplan.
Now it's more streamlined and combo oriented with better draw and tutors.

There are mutliple paths to victory :
• Infinite mana combos with a finisher like Walking Ballista, Steel Hellkite or Staff of Domination.
• Beatdown using Karn, Silver Golem's ability to animate and go face, with the help of Akroma's Memorial.
• Any other infinite combo: tokens, draw, life gain, destruction, ...
• Locking your opponents out of playing with Karn, Silver Golem or Karn, the Great Creator and Mycosynth Lattice.
• ... find out yourself, it's half the fun of playing it !

To give an example of what's possible within the deck: Krark-Clan Ironworks + Sculpting Steel + Foundry Inspector + Spine of Ish Sah allows you to destroy any number of permanents on each of your turns.
• This can be achieved with either KCI or Ashnod's Altar and any mana-cost reducer like Jhoira's Familiar, Cloud Key or Semblance Anvil.
• I didn't plan this combo while making the deck, all the cards are great on their own, I just happen to find it in a game.

There are many, many combos like this. The true greatness of the deck is finding them while playing.
First, here's a video of how the KCI combo works. It's explained with a modern deck as an example, but it's still relevant for us.


Krark-Clan Ironworks + Myr Retriever + Scrap Trawler is the base for infinite mana, ETB, LTB, sac, draw, ...

To make infinite mana you need either :
• a mana positive stone - Mana Vault, Mana Crypt, Sol Ring, Mox Opal, Grim Monolith, ...
• a mana cost reducer - Foundry Inspector, Cloud Key, Semblance Anvil, Jhoira's Familiar, Ugin, the Ineffable, ...

Su-Chi or Cathodion

For infinite tokens
Wurmcoil Engine, Myr Battlesphere, ...

For infinite destruction
Spine of Ish Sah, ...

For infinite draw :
Solemn Simulacrum, Terrarion, Ichor Wellspring, Chromatic Star, Chromatic Sphere, ...

Moonsilver Key can fetch anything with a mana ability.

• 605.1 - Some activated abilities and some triggered abilities are mana abilities, which are subject to special rules. Only abilities that meet either of the following two sets of criteria are mana abilities, regardless of what other effects they may generate or what timing restrictions they may have. • 605.1a - An activated ability is a mana ability if it meets all of the following criteria: it doesn’t require a target, it could add mana to a player’s mana pool when it resolves, and it’s not a loyalty ability. • 605.1b - A triggered ability is a mana ability if it meets all of the following criteria: it doesn’t require a target, it triggers from the activation or resolution of an activated mana ability or from mana being added to a player’s mana pool, and it could add mana to a player’s mana pool when it resolves.

If budget isn't a concern or you're playing in a proxy friendly environment, you should totally include Mishra's Workshop and probably City of Traitors in your manabase. City of Traitors makes you keep some awkward hands and personally I don't like it so much in a deck that's doesn't plan to win before turn 3. Yes, you need fast mana, but you need fast mana that stays on the battlefiled. City is often used to cast a key card in a very fast format like Legacy or Vintage. Here, it can boost a key artifact a few turns earlier but at the cost of a loss of tempo down the road.
Candelabra of Tawnos also deserves a spot in the list, the 99 is tightly packed with goodstuff but I'd probably remove something with a smaller impact like Thran Turbine or Lightning Greaves.
Arch of Orazca has an easy condition to achieve in a deck full of permanents. The cost to draw a card is a bit high, but it allows you to dump extra mana in the late turns.
Bonders' Enclave is easy to activate with Karn in the command zone.

War Room is insane in Karn ! Not much to expand on.
Bottled Cloister is a form of hand protection and lets you draw an additional card each turn. We're running only 2 instants, so not having a hand during our opponents' turns is not really a downside. It sucks if this gets removed while it's not your turn, but the advantages outweight the disadvantages.
Eye of Vecna lets you draw an additional card each turn for a small cost.
Memory Jar is the best hand refiller in colorless. This is pretty much mandatory in a deck that has troubles drawing reliably.
Mind's Eye is a wonderful engine ... when it sticks !
Staff of Domination is a multi-purpose artifact and in case of troubles allows you to draw.
Karn, Scion of Urza
Endbringer is an excellent colorless creatrue and drawing multiple cards per turn cycle is broken.
