Welcome to my Prime Primer for Prime Speaker Vannifar! If you like very complicated, consistent, and cool commander decks, this is the deck for you!

Introduction Show

Prime Speaker Vannifar is super cool, and I don’t know why where aren’t more builds around her. I unfortunately can’t afford expensive cards, so this is a budget deck besides some key cards. Regardless, this deck can easily win turn 5, and even faster with a good hand.

Basics Show

The concept of this deck is to use “Pod” as a utility finder and as a combo-enabler. I can chain creatures with an untap etb together to find a Protean Hulk. This is very complex, so please refer to my Sample Game to better understand the string. Once I sacrifice Protean Hulk, I can get an 8 cmc creature (Woodfall Primus is great because I can set up for the following combo) and find Ezuri, Claw of ProgressandSage of Hoursand an assortment of 0 cmc creatures to interact with Ezuri. Each combat, I can toss five +1/+1 counters onto Sage of Hoursand take an extra turn. This means infinite turns! Now you might be thinking, “What the hell does one do with all of those turns?”

What the hell one does with all of those turns Show

Because we have as many turns as we want, we can draw cards and untap lands each turn. This allows us to find a couple of combos, like Kazandu Tuskcaller / Intruder Alarmor Biovisionary/ Rite of Replication. If you are feeling especially mean, you could always just Laboratory Maniac and draw your entire deck over the course of your many turns. If this is a little complicated, look at the following example of this deck’s turns with a random hand:

Sample Game Show

Hand contains:Llanowar Elves,Corridor Monitor,Forest,Wirewood Lodge,Brainstorm, Sol Ring, andOrnithopter. Turn 1: Cast a Forest, then Sol Ring. We drew an Island. Turn 2: Island, then cast Vannifar. This is the most crucial rotation of turns because if they kill her, we have to try again. Turn 3: Cast Ornithopter, and not a land for turn. Tap all of your mana stuff to get Now tap Vannifar to sacrifice Ornithopter. Find Quirion Ranger. Return your Forest to your hand to untap Vannifar, and recast your Forest. Tap it for its for fun I guess, it doesn’t really matter right now. Sacrifice Quirion Rangerand get Scryb Ranger. Use Scryb Rangerto return your recently cast Forest to your hand and untap Vannifar. Sacrifice Scryb Rangerand find Bounding Krasis. SacrificeBounding Krasisto go getBreaching Hippocamp. Untap, Sac, go get card: Chakram Retreiver. Cast Llanowar Elvesand then Brainstormwith your floating mana. It doesn’t really matter what you find with brainstorm, just don’t draw your win conditions. Anyway, untap Vannifar because you've just cast an instant, and sacrifice Llanowar Elves. Find Corridor Monitor, untap, sac, find Spellseeker. When Spellseekerenters, find your Noxious Revival. Cast Noxious Revival, thus untapping Vannifar. You should probably return the smallest or most important parts to your combo so if anyone interrupts we have our pieces back to try again. Tap, sac Spellseeker, find card: Archeomancer. card: Archeomancer brings back Revival, cast Revival, untap, sac, find Mnemonic Wall, bring back Growth. Cast Revival, untap, sac, find Greenwarden of Murasa. When Greenwarden enters, return Revival to your hand. Cast Revival, untap Vannifar, and sac Greenwarden. When Greenwarden dies, bring back Revival. Find Protean Hulkand cast Revival one last time to untap Vannifar. Tap, sac, and find whatever you want. It doesn’t matter, because Protean Hulk just died. When it dies, go get Ezuri, Claw of ProgressandSage of Hours, and as many zero mana dudes you can. If they enter in this fashion, Ezuri will get 5 or more counters on him. Go to combat and add five or more +1/+1 counters to Sage of Hours. Remove those counters and take another turn. You did it, and on Turn 3! Yay!

Some Bonus Content Show

Everything else here is just filler, ramp, and control magic to protect your combo! Some cards, like See Beyond and Dream Cache, are great at putting things like Protean Hulk back into your library from your hand. A strength of this deck is that the combo can’t be stopped by control magic because you aren’t casting any creatures, but if the opponent has any instant speed kill spells, your chain shuts down because Vannifar can’t respond at instant speed. This sets your combo back a little, but as long as you have a creature on the battlefield you can reset the combo for the next turn! Some cool cards that help you to combo off even better are Intruder Alarm and Thornbite Staff because they let Vannifar untap without using an etb creature. You can chain into utility cards like Acidic Slime and still combo off. This deck can combo into an early win, but as an added buff, this deck can use Vannifar for utility. Birthing Pod decks are legendary at being able to search their decks for solutions to problems with cards like Acidic Slime and Reclaimation Sage.

Finishing Statements Show

Now go, combo off, and please give me constructive criticism because I desperately need it! Something I really need help with is my manabase. For Vannifar to work well with Quirion Ranger and Scryb Ranger I need two Forests out, and it’s hard to keep my manabase consistent as it is. I also need help with instant-speed kill spells and counter spells like Force Of Will. Something interesting to consider, however, is that if the opponent counters my Noxious Revival to stop my chain, I still get the cast triggers! This means that counterspells are only handy for when I cast my commander or supportive pieces. An unfortunate part of this deck that I am in the process of remedying is that as a fast combo deck, I have neither the time nor the mana to deal with any opposition, and if my pieces go to the graveyard I don’t really have a way to reset and try again besides with Noxious Revival. I guess an Ancient Tomb, Mana Crypt, or other low cost mana ramp would be really useful, but my wallet can’t accommodate for that damage. Please upvote this deck, I need someone to affirm that this amalgam of janky simic combos actually works or can be appreciated!
