This is my love letter to the Simic Color pair. I like them, they have a really cool interaction and play a way that fits my play style. They may be less powerful on the surface than Thrasios or Momir Vig but that also just means that people underestimate you and target you less. For example if you see a table with Pir/Toothy, Najeela, the Blade-Blossom , Thrasios and Tymna, or Zur, The enchanter. Who do you target more? Sure Threat assessment is key but when Pir and toothy are their with card advantage/ nearly free spells in hand you probably won't be able to stop them after the other 3 have been at war it can win in big ways.

How to use Show

The deck has quite a few wincon's with dual purposes

Eternal witness, Extra turn spells, Deadeye navigator: come together as an infinite turn combo.

^ many other cards come together to do this combo as well

Toothy : He gets big and if you blink him double his counters with Pir out. Use Artful Dodge etc. to kill a player with commander damage, extra turns to do it again. Player removal best removal.

Sylvan library,Brainstorm Sensei's top all trigger Toothy. Blinking toothy can also cause a "fail to find" and act like a shuffle on ETB making him especially good with these cards.

The blinking also counter's targeted removal while giving some extra use for E-witness,Prime speaker Zegana and Bane of progress.

Simic accendancy,Phycosis crawler and Jace/lab man : ^ draw out your deck with the interaction's above and win super quick.

Pir and Planeswalkers : I've chosen all PW that ult the turn after they come out. Have you ever ultimated vivien reid on turn 3? I have.

stealing wincons : Treachery, Gilded drake (other steal effects) are mainly to steal out big toothy back but they can also just steal an opponents wincon.

Interactions Show

The basic nature's claim, Krosan grip, Free/cheap Counterspell's that go into most Cedh decks go extremely well in mass card draw decks like this one. Maybe even more then the typical decks that use them. The ability to pivot from defense to offence is pretty easy with this deck. Typically droping sylvan library/dorks and rocks early to then bring out an early or protected pir/toothy is the best way to play.

How to build Show

It really just depends how you wanna go about it, what meta permits and what your budget is. As a whole you can make this fairly cheap but it'll obviously be far less competitive (and that might even be a good thing for your meta)

1. How you wanna build it for less competitive metas : Tone down the interaction, add some more casual cards like say rishkar, bring the mana base down so you're a bit slower and now everyone will still wanna play with you.

2. Personal preference for competitive metas: Add more combos , you decide what you think you need. Flash / Protean Hulk? (works with about everything)

Strip mine,Azusa effects, Ramunap effects ? (works great with fetch lands)

Narset, PoV with Windfall effects? (works great with toothy)

Depending on your meta Carpet of flowers and Mystic remora might be dead cards if most of your meta doesn't play Blue or non-creature heavy decks often. They're still really good in most cases though.

more tutors : this isn't super necessary since the card draw you get tends to make it redundant but it's also a good fail safe if things go wrong.

more dorks and rocks to power this stuff out

Land wasn't included because it's a 2 color deck, just run the normal simic lands, or run no basics for the hermit druid combo.

All in all I hope you enjoyed my primer. This is more of a How to build toothy to it's full potential since I see so many lists with slow/win more cards that the decks feel like they just looked at EDH/rec and made the deck on a whim. which is fine but if you're looking for more power or a faster/more resilient build. This is a good place to start.
