Pia and Kiran Thopter Combo

Commander / EDH

HerzogMacabre

Sideboard

Currently this decklist is in flux, with many slight adjustments coming from the maybe/sideboard. There are so many parts that help this sort of deck work that some cards already cut may make their way back in after reconsideration.

This is a fairly strait forward deck brew. Mono-red artifact good-stuff and card value with two late game bombs; Scrap Mastery into a retarded board state, or Nim Deathmantle tokens/mana/etc combos.

Scrap Mastery was my initial goal with this deck, using multiple wheel effects and a few looter effects to fill the graveyard, Shattering Spree, Slobad, Goblin Tinkerer and Krark-Clan Ironworks to wipe my own board and Recoup to help stabilize Scrap Mastery.

The issue is that there is no solid victory condition with this approach. A dedicated Daretti or Slobad, Goblin Tinkerer deck can make this goal much more consistent and powerful... so instead of a focus, we have...

THOPTERS!

This sort of combo is fairly generic with creatures that ETB+1, but can generate extra resources with creatures that ETB+2 or more (like Siege-Gang Commander/Beetleback Chief/Myr Battlesphere/etc).

All parts of the combo require Nim Deathmantle. We have a single solid tutor to get this into play in Godo, Bandit Warlord, but can also try Kuldotha Forgemaster, Gamble and chain Sarkhan's Triumph into Hoarding Dragon. Using Gamble is obviously a gamble, so we may need to find some artifact recursion, and using Hoarding Dragon is a very ballsy gamble, and shouldn't be done without an immediate sacrifice (via something like Goblin Bombardment.

The other major requirement of this combo is something to generate the mana to continually recur Pia&Kiran. The best option is Ashnod's Altar, which allows us to generate infinite colorless mana + tokens. If Pia&Kiran are not accessible this also lets us combo with any ETB+1 sort of creature (like the Thopter Engineer, or delayed trigger Wurmcoil Engine), so we can continue using an alternate victory condition other than infinite thopters.

Mana Echoes is an alternative that will also allow a continuous loop, but does not generate infinite creatures, or any additional mana (unless a 3+ thopters in play). But we still can generate infinite enter and leave the battlefield triggers for various win-conditions. The issue with Mana Echoes is that we require another card to act as a sacrifice outlet.

A potential out is Krark-Clan Ironworks. It is half of a the mana engine we need, since it does generate the mana necessary for Nim Deathmantle to trigger, but can't sacrifice Pia&Kiran.

Lastly we have Phyrexian Altar and Thermopod. These two do not generate an infinite loop unless we have a creature that ETB+3, like Myr Battlesphere for example, but with Pia&Kiran we can still net enter+leave the battlefield triggers for every mana we invest, which may still win the game.

The following are considered "win-conditions" with this combo;

Thopter Engineer, Akroma's Memorial, and In the Web of War allow us to attack with an army of infinite thopters on the turn we go off. It is although important to note that we may not need haste, as this combo can occur on an opponents endstep.

Vicious Shadows, Impact Tremors, Purphoros, God of the Forge, and Ghirapur AEther Grid and all pull a win without having to attack, and if Arcbound Crusher is not summoning sick he could also be an infinitely huge trampler.

Goblin Bombardment can be used in between the above examples if I have infinite tokens, but no way to immediately attack+win. Tomb of the Spirit Dragon could be used to gain infinite life, but if I have this sort of board then I should already be winning.

If I am able to generate infinite colorless mana, but do not have any way to continue with any other line, I could potentially draw my entire deck by using the Nim Deathmantle and sac'looping Scarecrone , Solemn Simulacrum or Godo, Bandit Warlord to get Skullclamp, or we could Spine of Ish Sah the opponents world into oblivion.
