The Commander: I've always liked the idea of a Shadowborn Apostles deck, however it never seemed like there was a Commander that i thought really fit the theme. Athreos, God of Passage made popular by The Command Zone host Josh Lee Kwai had been the go to commander for Shadowborn Apolstle, and August 23, 2019 it happen K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth was revealed and from that moment I knew it had to be made. Ghave, Guru of Spores was torn apart and was fed to K'rrik. I am hoping to do for K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth, what JLK did for Athreos, God of Passage with Shadowborn Apostles. The deck you see now is the Fruit of that labor. 100% homebrew high powered Shadowborn Apostles deck.

~~The deck started off with two Demons Razaketh, the Foulblooded & Vilis, Broker of Blood. While Vilis is an excellent card draw engine... it was a little too good, and I would inevitably draw out my library. Playtest after Playtest he wasn't needed a better path was found that worked with just Razaketh that was more viable.~~ Taking in a lot of advice the deck became more consistent and faster. Vilis, Broker of Blood is going thru more playtesting

?But where are all the demons?: Sometimes what the card says isn't always what the card needs to be about. This deck is about "Turbo Thrumming Stone" Smash Thrumming Stone out as fast as possible, get Razaketh, The foul Blooded out, and tutor wins. This doesn't really require any other Demons, but the 2 chosen. Any more would just add fat to the deck.

The number: One of the hardest numbers to figure out was the answer to the big question... How many Shadowborn Apostle? To this day the best answer to that question, and it makes me smile everytime the deck goes off.......

"33 mmm yeaaa that sounds like a good round number." - Anonymous

... and it is absolutely the best number 98% of the time.

I own this deck in paper with the following exceptions that are being budgeted in and will have soon Vampiric Tutor, Yawgmoth's Will, Winding Canyons, & Scorched Ruins

Main goal of the deck as stated earlier is to get Thrumming Stone out as fast as possible, and drop Shadowborn Apostles. There is 98% chance that you will draw out every Shadowborn Apostle in the deck.

When you get this combo out, you summon Razaketh, the Foul Blodded, then you can dig out your win - cons. The thrumming stone combo is not needed for the deck to play out. It is just slower without it.

* ~~Tendrils of Agony Best played after you Thrumming Stone into Shadowborn Apostle ~~

  • Aetherflux Reservoir & Leshrac's Sigil with K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth on the field you can cast Leshrac then return it to hand for 8 life each time, while Reservoir racks up life points, you then ping opponent or opponents for lethal damage. This combo is unavailable on Mtgo because you can not get Leshrac's Sigil.

  • Aetherflux Reservoir & Razaketh, the Foulblooded - whether you have Thrumming Stone on the field or not you can still get a high storm count, if you have Razaketh, the Foulblooded on the field. Sac a Shadowborn Apostle and tutor another... repeat.

  • Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose & Exquisite Blood A popular infinite combo, after you have both of these on the field, find a way to gain life or swing wide with creatures after you activate Vito's ability or swing with K'rrik who has lifelink. Sanguine Bond was in the deck at one point but taking consideration the nature of the deck (Amount of creatures, and Life = Mana), Vito seems to be a better fit.

  • K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth K'rrik he should have atleast (34) +1/+1 counters by this point, tutor and cast Lightning Greaves this will give him haste. Turn him sideways and smash thru with commander damage. It may be Turn 1 but no one can complain you won with infinite combos. Most of the time there is no blockers if you play 1st, However if you play 2nd and there is a chump blocker do not fear the deck has solutions for almost anything. Tutor up Toxic Deluge pay your life and oppress the opponent like K'rrik was made to do, and get on with your life.

  • Aetherflux Reservoir & Shadowborn Apostle once Thrumming Stone is one the field you ripple and get all the Shadowborn on the field by this time your life should be increased enough to ping the opponent. If you don't have Thrumming Stone for any reason.... If you get card:Razaketh, the Foul Blooded out with Aetherflux Reservoir and have one Shadowborn Apostle sac the Shadowborn and tutor another (Repeat this process) Kind of like the Aetherflux Reservoir & Leshrac's Sigil combo.

  • ~~Hatred If there is an open field, or you can trick someone into not blocking (which i have done with Shadowborn Apostles), you can cast this and pump for lethal. If you are attacking with a non-Lifelink creature and you have less life than the opponent, it is possible to give Lifelink with Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose. The most common strategy is to attack with K'rrik, Son of Yagmoth so when you pump attack power the commander damage usually takes them out, and if it doesn't you can gain the life back.~~

  • Blood Artist you get what you see. It is more of a back up for the other win cons and can passively get you life and drain other people while you do your thing.

A normal opening hand would have anything that could get K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth by turn 3 or 4 along with Thrumming Stone. Turn 1 and 2 is very possible, depending on the rest of the cards in the hand you might not want to.

  • Fast mana

  • No more than 2 Shadowborn Apostle (so you don't take away from thrumming stone triggers)

  • Thrumming Stone, Card draw, or Tutor (You will generally tutor for the thrumming stone, and will be able to play it around turn 3 or 4 with a good starting hand)

Side note: * ~~Hatred If this in your starting hand or your starting hand has tutor and your opponent has no blockers or you know they wont use them to block, use this strategy. Combat tricks are fun and there is the possibility that they will not block and will not see this coming. After they decide not to block pump K'rrik to finish opponent with Commander Damage.~~

  • ~~With Hatred you want to be able to reliably guess what your opponent will do. ~~
  • ~~If they are red and are tapped out, more than likely they will not have a burn spell to take your life after the spell is cast. Nothing like dying turn 2 by Gut Shot, Shock, or Lightning Bolt~~

  • ~~If they are blue... just don't use this if they have a highpowered deck it's a good guess they have Force of Negation or Force of Will even if they are tapped out. Online it's bad to do against a blue deck, in paper commander you can trick people if they get too ansy (in paper people try to counter before you specify how much life you were going to pay so you can say 0, online it won't let people jump the gun.~~

  • ~~Bolas's Citadel + Necropotence - have a land on top stopping you from oppressing people with Citadel... pay 1 life and keep holding everyone back. Because no one should be able to play Magic, but you.~~

  • Plunge into Darkness + Cypt Incursion running out of gas to keep people oppressed, cast this lovely combo Plunge will allow you to sac creatures to gain 3 life per, dig thru your deck if you want, and when the Apostles hit the graveyard, sac them again for 3 more life each.

  • Aetherflux Reservoir + Thrumming Stone + Shadowborn Apostle - This deck generally pulls out every Shadowborn when the combo goes off so you gain around 560 life... even if it doesn't these cards on the table at once will make your life total go up, therefore you gain more Gas to continue oppressing people, or just ping someone with Aetherflux if your life total is enough.

  • Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose + Plunge into Darkness or Crypt Incursion - Gain a bunch of life make opponent lose a bunch of life.

  • Razaketh, the Foul Blooded & Thrumming Stone - Did you hit a miss on the stone ripple? As long as Razaketh, the Foul Blooded is out just sac a Shadowborn Apostle and tutor another to keep the triggers going.

  • Vilis, Broker of Blood + anything that costs life

  • Ad Nauseam - Use less life to draw lots of cards

  • Plunge into Darkness - Pay a bunch of life to draw alot of cards, and still dig thru the deck
  • Toxic Deluge - wipe the board and draw cards

  • Vilis, Broker of Blood - He himself removes creatures and draws cards doing it

  • K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth - Life to pay for mana costs and draw cards doing it

  • Ad Nauseam - popular dig thru deck and fill up hand, while this deck doesn't have a way to outright win with Ad Nauseam as it traditionally used for, it does fill up your hand with cards that matter, most of which will be Shadowborn Apostles that you could then put out on the field, tutor Razaketh, the Foulblooded, and start digging thru your deck for win-cons

  • ~~Bolas's Citadel - what is better than paying using life for mana? More cards that allow you to do the same. Getting Apostles on the field is drastically easier when you can not only play them off the top of the Library, but doing so at half the casting cost. (Casting cost = Life) ~~

  • Plunge into Darkness - Similar to Demonic Consultation, it does require more risk to play. It is more benefitial in other ways, while it does dig at the requirement to pay life, you can also sacrifice creatures to make up for it. Similar to Demonic Consultation do not use this unless you are going to win the game, or just use the life gain.

  • Demonic Consultation - Straight forward ...dig for combo. Most of the combos in here require 2 pieces so generally you dig for the second piece after you have the first. If Thrumming Stone is on the field you can always use Demonic Consultation to dig for a Shadowborn Apotle.

  • Demonic Tutor

  • Diabolic Intent

  • Grim Tutor

  • Diabolic Tutor

  • Praetor's Grasp - whats better than combing your own deck? Combing someone elses... This is mainly used for mana ramp, or to steal combos so they don't go off.

  • Razaketh, the Foulblooded - He shines in this deck with the amount of creatures availible to sacrifice and life gain.

The turn 1 can be done with multiple fast mana options. Let me know what you see.

Counters and removal are a pain to deal with, especially when they hit your wins. The movie above 4 player cedh video is an example of how much interaction can throw off gameplay, and why i thought hard how to not let it knock the deck out of the game. ( will be posted when done editing ) How dare someone other than us play... to keep on playing and by that i mean solitaire not mtg :)

Elixir of Immortality just hit the reset button, when your win-cons get targeted. This will shuffle your graveyard back into the deck and you can rinse and repeat. Making the counter decks lose their mind.. even if they counter the elixir...which they won't... cast Yawgmoth's Will and get it back.

Your deck be like.....
