Phenax Non Exile Mill

Commander / EDH UB (Dimir)

Conair2013

A mill deck that does not have any exile, except Bojuka Bog and Scavanger Grounds just in case. That means it is weak to graveyard decks. Built this version as you can make use of fun cards like Consuming Aberration, Dimir Doppelganger or Wight of Precinct Six. If you were to make this deck more flexible you can add cards like planar void/ leyline of the void or Ashiok, Dream Render and other cards that exile. Planar void can be both better and worse than leyline of the void as the card hits the graveyard then exiles making Syr Konrad, the Grim better but vunerable to people responding that planar void trigger. Leyline can also be less viable as fraying sanity is worse as a result Lasav is useless as well as some of the problems with planar void. A lot of the cards and stay in a more flexible Phenax deck but they can become useless as Consuming Aberration and Nighthowler both just die when you exile. Eater of the Dead becomes less viable as there are less or no creatures in the graveyard.

Guiltfeeder is already a risky card to play as your opponent may have a black and or artifact creature, becomes even risker if it does small amounts of damage. It is not as viable as other options. Drown in the Loch can become very annoying to use as though it is brillant for mill if there are no and small amount cards in graveyard you may not be able to remove the creature or counter the spell. Extinguish All Hope is only in for flavour reasons, featuring Phenax, it is objectively worse than Toxic Deluge or Damnation. Necromantic Selection is not very good but in there for fun as you can make use of the graveyard. Scheming Symmetry is fun as you can politic or mill the card they want. But the card you mill your opponent may want milled so this is even more viable in the exile version. There are several combos in this deck. Traumatize/Maddening Cacophony and Fraying Sanity. Eater of the Dead and Phenax. These kill someone and Eater of the Dead can kill everyone as long as they have at least an average amount of creatures. Duskmantle Guildmage and Mindcrank. Also, with King Macar, Freed from the Real and Phenax can exile every creature until dealt with.

Though combos in a more chill enviroment is not very fun majority of the cards mentioned are good in the deck without the combo. Duskmantle can help kill someone by only milling them for their lifetotal even when they run eldrazi or Gaia's Blessing. Mindcrank can be used in politics as your opponents can help the milling and stop life loss decks.
