Phenax, God of Deception - Mill Deck

Commander / EDH Casual Mill Multiplayer UB (Dimir)

piedudecubed

Do you like drinking tears? Do you like drawing ire and anger? Then this deck is for you! Nothing pisses off players more than being unable to play their fun, juicy cards and seeing them quickly go into their graveyard. Despite being a casual deck, this deck does some serious work and most games I'm able to completely mill the entire table. Here we go:

Mill Mechanics

Phenax, God of Deception - This is the biggest and one of the nastiest sources of mill. All of your creatures tap and mill. So you can leave them untapped for blockers and on an opponents' end step before, your turn you can tap and usually mill for like 25 cards at a time. Important - you can mill using Phenax's ability at instant speed! So if they go to board-wipe or kill your creature (or especially Phenax) you can mill in response. This also allows for some fun shenanigans

Keening Stone - Mill an opponent half way and you can use this card to kill them next turn. Use with Traumatize or Fraying Sanity for an insta-kill

Fraying Sanity - double-mill for a single player

Mind Funeral + Mind Grind - good mill cards

Jace, Memory Adept - Use his +1 to draw a card and mill, but I typically just do his 0 ability and mill an opponent for 10.

Ashiok, Nightmare Muse - her ult is the big one; exile opponents' graveyards and play whatever you want

Mindcrank - When opponents are dealt damage, they mill that many cards. This has an infinite combo with Duskmantle Guildmage .

Sphinx's Tutelage and Psychic Corrosion - Mill every time you draw

Memory Erosion - Opponents mill when they play spells.

Manic Scribe - each opponent mills 3 on their turn

Card Draw

Drawing cards is good in general but also combos with Sphinx's Tutelage and Psychic Corrosion , as well as dealing damage with Psychosis Crawler and making Chasm Skulker huge. Here are some methods to boost your card draw:

Well of Ideas - Draw 2 additional cards on your draw step.

Monastery Siege - Choose Khans and draw an additional card on your draw step.

Jace's Archivist + Windfall - Wheel (card draw AND mill)

No Maximum Hand Size

Reliquary Tower
Spell Book
Thought Vessel
Nezahal, Primal Tide

Removal

I have found that this deck needed some more removal:

Arcane Denial + Counterspell - counterspells

Cyclonic Rift + Winds of Rebuke - return cards to hands

Rabid Hybridization - destroy target creature

Repel - this is fun one. REMEMBER THIS ORDER: 1. Mill at least one card from the top of opponents' library (has to be instant speed) 2. Hold priority, and cast Repel on target creature. This will put a creature on top of their library, which immediately gets milled ((:

Sadistic Sacrament - the best kind of removal is never letting the cards be played in the first place. Does your friend always and only win with an infinite combo? Does your friends' deck annoy you?? Worry no more! Play this card, remove those cards from their decks and watch them quit the game. This is also important to use if your opponent has anti-mill cards that never touch the graveyard (like Vigor )

King Macar, the Gold-Cursed - one of my favorite cards in magic - mill with him and Phenax, God of Deception , and then on your upkeep you get to exile a creature AND get some gold!

Exiling Graveyards

Sometimes you gotta exile graveyards to prevent graveyard shenanigans that aren't your own:

Relic of Progenitus + Tormod's Crypt

Shenanigans

Soo many in this deck:

Profane Memento - gain life each time you mill a creature

Consuming Aberration + Sewer Nemesis + Bonehoard - creatures with power/toughness equal to graveyard sizes. These are SERIOUS threats and are capable of killing players in one-two turns

Demon of Dark Schemes - play creatures from graveyards

Diluvian Primordial - play spells from opponents' graveyards

Dimir Doppelganger + Lazav, Dimir Mastermind - become copy of creatures in graveyards

Fatestitcher - untap creature so that you can mill again. Can be lethal with a card like Consuming Aberration

Tree of Perdition - Opponents will immediately get triggered thinking that you're going to kill them with their low hp; it's actually because once you use the ability you get to mill for 40 (usually) >:))

Undead Alchemist - get a zombie token each time you mill a creature. Just be aware that any creatures that are milled get exiled and you can't use them for shenanigans, like with Profane Memento

Cackling Counterpart - make a copy of a troublemaking creature you control - double trouble

That's it! Have fun and enjoy!
