“For so I created them free and free they must remain.”

― John Milton, Paradise Lost

Hello and welcome to Paradise Lost! Our goal is simple: To fly in the face of the MTG Gods and free ourselves from the false reality of a turn 4 format! This is a deck based around our favorite little mana dork Birds of Paradise , and has a very simple premise and win con involving our feathered friend. All we need are three cards: Birds, Leyline of Abundance , and Freed from the Real . Here's how it works

  1. We drop Leyline of Abundance at the start of the game and a Breeding Pool turn one, then play our Birds of Paradise .

  2. We drop a second Pool or any land really and tap both our lands and birds for four mana, 3 blue from lands and bird and 1 green from the leyline. Then, we keep one blue floating and cast Freed from the Real on Birds. Finally, we put the floating blue into Freed and "free" our bird, untapping it. Now when we tap Birds we tap it for 1 blue and get an extra green. That blue then goes back in and untaps birds again, which means we net 1 green mana. At this point we have infinite green mana, and can win by giving birds ∞ power and toughness and then swinging in to face, or we can go the more stable route and cast Genesis Wave to grab Worldspine Wurm , Xenagos, God of Revels and Asceticism , trigger Xenagos on the wurm and swing for game.

And that's the deck. The rest is support cards. Ways to draw into our combos like Opt , ways to stall opponents like Remand , and some backup birds in Noble Hierarch . Sideboard tbd.

Now that our eyes have been opened and we have been freed, remember the following:

“Then wilt thou not be loath

To leave this Paradise, but shalt possess

A Paradise within thee, happier far.”

― John Milton, Paradise Lost
