Package Deals - Winota, Joiner of Forces EDH

Commander / EDH* RW (Boros) Tokens Value Engine

RoseQuartz26

This Winota, Joiner of Forces deck centers around Humans that generate non-human creatures upon entering the battlefield (like Thopter Engineer) to generate card advantage with Winota, snowballing into a large board state with protection around it.

Unlike me, many of these humans have non-human friends come with them in the form of tokens! This is reminiscent of Bonders, an important aspect of Ikoria, the world that Winota calls home.

Besides the marked Humans With Friends, such as Pia Nalaar, many of the Whales that you can cheat out using Winota's ability come with friends, such as Lena, Selfless Champion, Geist-Honored Monk, and Captain of the Watch.

Of course, the point of these non-Human tokens is to trigger the ability of Winota, Joiner of Forces and get humans out from your library - and this wouldn't be nearly as awesome without some expensive Humans to cheat out! (Get it? Humans that are expensive? Whales have enough money to buy all the Magic products like the Secret Lairs which I so desperately want? Sorry, I had to include the obligatory pun.)

Unfortunately, there aren't many high-costed humans to cheat out, but that doesn't mean that the ones we do have are any less awesome. Angrath's Marauders and Resolute Blademaster have the power to end games, while Captain of the Watch and Lena, Selfless Champion push us further out of the reach of our opponents.

Of course, as a Boros tokens deck, this deck commits VERY heavily to the board. But luckily for us, the unique nature of Winota's abilities enables us to run the typically less-than optimal protection cards that White seems to have so many of. Perfect examples include Lena, Selfless Champion and Gerrard, Weatherlight Hero, who will protect us from any boardwipes that might hurt our team. Ghostway and the more affordable Eerie Interlude mirror Gerrard, as well - although these three cards may not protect our tokens, they do flicker the nontoken creatures we do have, so we'll get our army right back.

With a seemingly endless army of angry humans and Thopters headed our way, our opponents will be scrambling to survive the coming onslaught. We have a few "hatebears" to deal with just that situation - Thalia, Heretic Cathar and Ethersworn Canonist make it nearly impossible to catch up, while the cEDH powerhouse Grand Abolisher stops our opponents from messing with us on our turns!

Of course, to close out a game, there needs to be some good stuff that we can use as a win condition. Chance for Glory allows us to quickly take an extra turn to close out a game (although extra combat steps could possible do you better, so you might want to throw in a Combat Celebrant), Angrath's Marauders deals incredible amounts of damage, Mirror March amplifies anything you put out, and Divine Visitation turns those little 1/1's into Serra Angels. Finally, we have Reconnaissance, which isn't a wincon, but it is an incredible plan B to get us out of any sticky attacks, and also gives us psuedo-vigilance in a deck that doesn't really work too well with regular vigilance.

Thank you very much for checking this deck out! If you enjoyed it, feel free to leave an upvote. I spend a lot of time creating EDH and Oathbreaker decks here on TappedOut, so go ahead and check out the rest of my work, as well!

My first decklist was me toying with a bunch of cards, seeing which strategies worked. I have now removed the ones that don't work and replaced them with card advantage engines, ramp, and general good stuff. Enjoy!
