Oops! all spells. No "lands" EDH deck.

This is a high power fun deck. Meaning, if 10 was CEDH and 1 was a precon - this should be about a 7. What I have found to be the sweet spot for playing with people. powerful enough to take down most decks, but not playing most of the "ridiculous" cards that casual players hate hate hate. (i.e. no free counter spells, no rocks that start with "mana" and avoiding cards that cost over $100). Also avoiding rhystuc study, mystic remora, considering cutting smoothering tithe - just as they all make you "that guy" at the table, who keeps asking "will you pay?"

Why Reaper King? If you want to play an optimized list - it's definitely Kenrith. or just drop the white and play the partners (Silas renn and Tana). I personally like white for 2 spells - silence and smothering tithe. 100% worth the splash. You also get another tutor and another reanimate spell - that happens to have flashback! in budget lists also opens up unburial rites. I chose reaper king for 2 reasons. 1) keeps with the "fun" over "competitive" theme. 2) The first altered card, and first edh deck I ever built was reaper king. Back before the precons - and when there were a lot less good cards. It was a mess of changelings, favor the mighty, prismatic omen and almost all tapped/basic lands!

This is a work in progress - I was surprised how few oops all spells lists had updated for the new "flip" lands.

Getting the cards into the graveyard.

This deck gets to play 28 lands without having any lands for Balustrade Spy and Undercity Informer. This means we have 4 different ways to put our entire deck into the graveyard. Hermit Druid, spy, informer, and Cephalid Illusionist + Nomads en-Kor. And that Goblin Charbelcher does MAXIMUM DAMAGE

Winning!

You win the game with Thassa's Oracle, or Laboratory Maniac after getting rid of your entire deck. Dread Return is one of the easiest ways to win - allowing you to cast it from the graveyard. You get a Narcomoeba when flipping your deck over, and otherwise it is pretty easy to have 2 more creature out (1, if your way of milling was druid or spy, 0 if it was cephalid) there is also the haunted dead which with narcomeoba means you could cast return while starting with an empty board and undercity informer - just need more mana and a few cards in hand. The nice thing about oracle is you don't need to draw. You can also cast it, and hold priority and cast demonic consultation while the trigger is on the stack. (or ad nauseam if you have enough life). Charbelcher is an alternate wincon. The downside being it can only kill 1 opponent a turn - assuming they have not gained a LOT of life. So, choose the order wisely.

Mana

There is a lot of mana rocks - required as you play slightly low sources. but, you also have a bunch of "free" mana hidden in the creatures. Pretty simple - haven't had issues in this area with this config

Tutors

I was asked "why so many different types of tutors?" because the combo is a creature, why things like mystical and enlightened? You can also win with spells - using entomb, and any reanimate card can let you win, postmortem lunge is great with hermit druid. smothering tithe is a great target if you are low on mana. or, charbelcher is also a win con you can pick up. Also - the tutors sometimes get you protection for your combo. Discussed next. The tutors are the main source of card advantage. Instead of running cards like brainstorm - we just get the cards we need.

Protection

Veil of Summer, Autumn's Veil, Silence. All work to basically mean you get to combo and everyone watches you win! Great fun :) later in the game you can win from just mana sources, a protection spell and a tutor for spy. Underworld breach is a semi-protection in that it can let you pick back up countered cards. considering pull from eternity - if exiling things becomes a problem. Vexing Shusher also fills in - but gets to do double duty and be a creature to sac, and protect spells on other turns too!

Value/thoughts

Fatestitcher and Salvage Titan are flex slots for helping fill in for narcomoeba and haunted dead for providing fodder for dread return. if you cant dread return (it get's exiled somehow) thats why there are many other reanmiate spells - you have to get your library into your gy then reanimate oracle for the win. Currently playing dark confidant over sylvan library for the budget - and providing a body. Grim monolith should come out (for budget) - I will work on some updates!

Flex spots

Deathrite may not be good enough for this "meta" not necessarily a lot of fetch lands being used at this power level. Depends on who you play. Not great with our deck as a "dork" so we might cut it for a sylvan caryatid. Songs of the damned might be unneeded - but it allows you to mill yourself with just 1 mana open and still cast a reanimate, or lunge or something. not sure!

Updates Add

so, I did not change a ton of cards - but, I think I effected the power level pretty heavily. I realized I overshot the power level, and was pretty consistently winning on turn 4 which is not quite what I was aiming for. I am surprised (though pleasantly) how smoothly the deck is working. Though, you do take mulligans and it still has a fail rate. In order to adjust this I cut Vampiric Tutor Worldly Tutor and Noxious Revival Revival isn't super relevant to the power level - but a card I wanted to swap out. But the 2 tutors are...well, amazing obviously. As of now I am leaving the blue and white tutors because they dont get the "I win" card. They can set up a win slowly - Enlightened Tutor can get charbelcher, but its a much more fair and interactble wincon.. More often than not Mystical Tutor is getting protection or some interaction. I put in Sylvan Library and Treasure Map  Flip and Utopia Tree. sylvan does fill card advantage, but is far less broken in this deck then most edh. we are not winning by amassing card advantage, and we dont win by having more draw/interaction etc. we win by having 1 of a few cards (4 really) so, paying extra life and seeing a few extra cards isn't nearly as broken as paying 1 mana to get our wincon. I am considering Chord of Calling as it is a much more fair tutor (5 mana eot for druid, or 7 mana for our other 2). As of now I am leaving the 2 mana tutors - call and demonic, and grim tutor as I think the extra mana cost and colored mana specifically on call make them more fair and dont contribute to turn 4 wins typically. Map and tree are slow, map is kinda card advantage kind of ramp. eventually a flip land. I think it fits the theme well.

Power level up

If you wanted to play cedh with this, I think it has a shot! cut all the 2 mana dorks, (except may be caryatid) cut some of the 3 mana rocks, and grim, sevinnes, vineyard etc. Put in all the free counters - force, force, mental, go with some of the 1 mana counters. fluster, miscast, pierce may be. Add in pact, all the cheap tutors - vampiric, imperial, worldly, and the best fast mana in mana crypt, vault etc. 1 mana dorks (elves) come out in force. cut the suspend rocks as well. and add autumn's veil back in with veil of summer and silence. play Kenrith as commander, definitely dockside, deathrite, gitaxian probeunderworld breach and yawgmoths probably. Necropotence. May be even doomsday - though not 100% on that. This brings this up to power level. I think it could compete based on what Ive seen. Though, commander legends may change that.

power level down

pretty easy to make this less powerful. If you want it on a precon power level simply remove the toturs (including imperial recruiter, wishclaw and the like) and some mana sources. Id specifically take out thinks like tinder wall, spirit guides, and chrome mox. The free ones. suspend ones are probably fine and the 2-3 cost mana rocks can stay. make add in some more myr, may be make it more of a pillow fort deck - play propaganda, ghostly prison, ensnaring bridge or go the other way and just add in your favorite creatures. I would cut the entomb, reanimate and sylvan library as well. If you take all those out and fill with random 3+ cards/creatures. it will feel a lot more fair against a precon. I wouldn't add in countermagic - you could go with board wipes if you wanted though. arguels blood fast and journey to eternity are nice interesting picks for going less powerful. still fun and interesting though!
