Maybeboard

Rundown: A versatile brew whose main intent is to be a swirl of tactics much the same way Roil is an amalgamation of color pie personalities. Red = direct damage, Blue = copy/blink effects, Green = ramp/landfall shenanigans. The latest Omnath, Locus of the Roil twists these traits into a tantalizing trifecta of talents.

GAMEPLAN: The ideal progression involves a starting hand with a bit of ramp and some curvey elementals to establish a field that can press early aggro if easy or wall shut if not advantageous. From there, we drop Roil early and back down often via either blink or clone, and parcel out the lumps of direct damage to personal enemies or political threats for the tables benefit. Once in the midgame, flush with 8 lands, it is all about maintaining an elemental board state and drawing off land drops till opponents fall by going wide or directly thru; very seldom tall and trampley.

Mini-Primer Elfhame Sanctuary puts in incredible work! No matter if its early game thru ensuring land drops or late game from thinning out the deck and getting a draw anyway. Even more impactful if Omnath, Locus of the Roil is present. Or even better should a one-turn emblem snuck out via Nissa, Vital Force: a double draw!!

Which brings me to my next star. Nissa, Vital Force; her uptick provides a tribal blocker until YOUR NEXT TURN and the following sacrifice allows a duplicate draw ability as our O'Nasty Roil. Whether early in his absence or late with his addition; anytime is a good time. The same with the next wonder...

Vortex Elemental is a sleeper juggernaut. Even foiled (beaut it is) it gets overlooked and usually ends up sending someone's big-hurt back to their deck in a grump. Sensational 1 drop.

Spawnwrithe is the trixiest elemental. Early game it can strike and duplicate, allowing a juicy board for O'Nasty Roil's 1st entry. And if these live past that entrance, the ensuing exponential doubling of attacking clones ensures a win in the aftermath when O'Nasty Roil drop again, and again.

In a similar vein, Molten Birth can grow a surprise board of elementals with some lucky flips after a wipe or as the final topper needed to closeout with direct damage.

Simple abuse of Fertilid and O'Nasty Roil's +1 counters from landfall can also provide a steady stream of elementals if Zendikar's Roil or either of the Embodiment Twins are present. Same goes for repeatedly looping a bunch of elementals out from ramping with Recross the Paths.

Studs like Risen Reef, Roil Elemental, Vigor, Sylvan Awakening, Soul of the Harvest, and Tilonalli's Summoner dont need much explanation for being called such.

But it's really the tiny bits like Portal of Sanctuary or Crystal Shard which are the rug that ties the room together. These repeatable 'bounces to hand' are paramount in usefulness and have won more game as the coup de grace then I've cared to track.

Maybeboards for what had a run, Sideboards for what's next to come

8/1/19 - 1st runs is as a winner. Won with combat but hope to get better at bouncing and elemental token spamming in order to increase the damage from continually reintroducing Omnasty to the battlefield.

8/8/19- Winner in a 3 pod vs sydric & erebos in gruelling yet even match, one via mass trample (stupid hexproof) and the other by 48 blink damage via 4 castings of Omnasty in a single turn w/12 elementals on the field. Beyond gratifying.

8/15/19 - Solid loss. Play got set up rapidly with Risen Reef early and was threatening all, thus a one-sided board wipe left me dead to a wall deck.

8/17/19 - 2 Omnath 1v1's matches, Roil, Roil Me Away being a more land focused brew to my elemental blend. Both were won via my continual pressing of early elemental creature rush and late-stage direct damage finisher. I need some draw engines when creatures enter or are cast.

8/18/19 - Won a squeaker against a Niv-Mizzet, Parun by keeping him off the field by using my bounce spells to disrupt the damage. Coup de grâce came with The Mending of Dominaria 3rd triggering with the Embodiment twins on the field, making all my lands elementals (20) and killing with a direct bomb from Omnath.

Many games accrued, often said is my most consistently competitive deck. Stopped notation but had a good 2v1.

1/23/20 - Won a 3 pod, really 2v1, against a broken Korvold, Fae-Cursed King with card:najeela, the blade-blossom. Took our combined might to deter and crush it but really was evenly matched with warriors falling on their swords to ensure death to Korvold, Fae-Cursed King via my killing stroke. Tough deck no matter but removal suite needs more depth.

3/30/22 - Obvi Omni still in paper. Frankly my favored of the 2.
