Omnath's Epic Struggle

Omnath, Locus of Mana for The Trinisphere Battle of the Omnaths. To put a Johnny twist on this older commander, I try to win with Epic Struggle by way of dumping my deck into play via Primal Surge. Because we want Surge to have a 100% hit rate, we run zero other instants/sorceries which means that we're running a higher density of Auras for removal), and enchantments for draw. This lends itself to an enchantress subtheme.

Really the Win Con here is Primal Surge which allows us to continually put permanents into play until we decide to stop (or reach the end of our deck). Normally this would be paired with Concordant Crossroads as a way to haste-swing with every creature in our library, but that's a little too main-stream. Really I just want to try and win with Epic Struggle.

Normally trying to win with Epic Struggle would want a lot of token generators to reach that 20 creature requirement early-on, but the Primal Surge means that we will be able to reach that number trivially. However if we get our Epic Struggle earlier in the game, we can use a few cards to crank out a huge number of bodies:

  • Helix Pinnacle is the more traditional Johnny win-con for Omnath, Locus of Mana, and we're sure to include that in here as homage.
  • Hangarback Walker provides a mana dump that can be dangerous to the board and is helpful for feeding into Epic Struggle by converting mana into bodies.
  • Walking Ballista takes a more direct route of turning mana into direct damage. If you're an uber-johnny you can use Rocket Launcher instead for that sweet sweet "What does that card do?"
  • Wolfbriar Elemental also generates an army with enough mana and also helps with Epic Struggle wins.
  • Nylea, God of the Hunt can turn chunks of mana into extra power-on-board by pumping attackers. This is not very mana efficient and we don't generate infinite mana, but this is still a useful way to use up our reservoir especially when people kill Omnath before trying to attack.

Since Omnath, Locus of Mana is a living mana battery, we have no problem over-emphasizing ramp in this deck and taking advantage of the extra mana to recast Omnath if it is killed, to play late-game spells in the midgame (like Primal Surge) or just to deploy fatties. Because we're a Primal Surge deck, we have an emphasis on mana dorks and other permanents that ramp us rather than the traditional green sorceries.

For Ramping Dorks we have:

For Enchantress-centric ramp we have:

For Extra Lands we have:

Being an enchantress-leaning permanents-only deck does limit our removal options but these are largely playable.

Digging for Primal Surge is imperative, so we have extra draw power in this build.

Generic draw power comes by way of:

Our Enchantress draw power comes from:

Some other Utility cards added in here include:

Since I know I'll be playing an Omnath vs Omnath vs Omnath vs Omnatch matchup, I have a few special cards to improve my chances of not getting destroyed by all my multicolored counterparts.
