One...Year..Later!

I've realized it is a bit silly not to be running Evolving Wilds.. plus there are not a lot of Blue decks in my meta.. thank goodness!!!

Nissa was a cool idea, but does not really do all that much. Mina and Denn however can just win games! (These twins have been highly suggested for me to give a second chance).

Expertise is easily the best EDH card to be printed last year. So much value!

This is one wincon for a potentially better one if you ask me!

Card advantage for ramp. I am not sure if this is the greatest choice, but has been recommended as well.

VexenX The point of of the Blade of Selves is equipping it to Omnath, Locus of Rage because when you attack and create copies of Omnath, you will have to chose one to keep and the others will be put in the graveyard at the same time because Omnath is legendary. This is almost a exploit on the legendary rule.

If you are playing against three other players, you when you attack with omnath equipped with the Blade of Selves, you will create two copies and those copies will be put on the graveyard at the same time each one triggering once for each Omnath that was on the Battlefield. So in this scenario you will get six triggers for a total of 18 points of damage, that's pretty devastating in my opinion. The more players the better because it is exponential also if you have Parallel Lives or similar enchantments in play, then it will be even better.

Yes, equipping the blade is expensive, but if you was able to cast a 7cmc commander, you will be able to pay for casting and equipping the blade in that turn. For such a powerful effect I gladly pay that mana.

Of course every meta is different, what works in one may not work in another.

Hi ! i see the new update, and reconsider Ulvenwald Hydra and Rampant Growth, i think in Traverse the Outlands, is a nice card, but no is early ramp, If you do not have omnath in game it does not work, regards !.

VexenX, what do you think about trying out the new Curse of Opulence? It's a one mana Spell that has not that much competition on this slot despite Exploration, Burgeoning and Sol Ring and could be fairly good ramp in the early game. I know it feels strange to play it in Omnath..but could be worth a try (and provides a reason why you should attack with Lotus Cobra straight from the beginning)!

I've been a huge fan of this list for the past few months and actually dedicated myself to building a build very similar to this list. I've kept checking everyday for any updates and what not; however, this is my first time posting here. I am curious on what you would take out for Ancient Tomb. It appears Ancient Tomb is something you strongly want to consider here as mana ramp.

-1 Gruul Turf

+1 Ancient Tomb

I understand the value of Gruul Turf with cards like Amulet of Vigor and Exploration, but I feel that having it early game without any of those effects, it becomes a very risky land to play. An opponent's Strip Mine is all it's gonna take to set you back a couple of turns. I would much rather run Ancient Tomb in this spot since you know you're usually going to get value from it the turn you play it. The 2 damage here is negligible when you consider how consistently you'll be able to set up and curve out. The Landfall abuse with Gruul Turf is the only thing I would consider running it for, and thus perhaps it is better to have that effect than not. Running both Gruul Turf and Ancient Tomb may as well be the optimal choice for this deck. Would like to hear your thoughts.

Also, how did you feel about Far Wanderings? I feel like it is a better late game option vs Farseek or Rampant Growth.

@lBahamutZeRO I recently had a discussion about Far Wanderings with a buddy of mine; however, with the pace of this deck and the utilization of Crucible and Excavator, are we really consistently going to be finding 7 cards in the graveyard without already taking over board control? I can see where you make the argument for late game though. It's just my thought that the threshold won't be as active as we would like it to be.

lBahamutZeRO- Going back to including Gruul Turf, I run Mina and Denn, Wildborn in my Omnath build, and them returning gruul turf to my hand led me to win a few games that I had no business winning against control decks since I had most of my lands already in play. I think if you run Mina and Denn, gruul turf is an auto-include. Without Mina and Denn, you can still strip mine yourself and return it to play with a crucible effect to guarantee landfall for the rest of the game with as many extra land-drops as you can have. I agree that Ancient Tomb is a great land, but I just wouldn't cut the Turf for it.

What does everyone think about the spoiled card "Shaper's Sanctuary?" For one G, it reads, "Whenever a creature you control becomes the target of a spell or ability an opponent controls, you may draw a card." I guess I don't know exactly how often my creatures get targeted.

ScrOuch, lBahamutZeROWe seem to agree on most things here. I am working on getting my hands on an Ancient Tomb Expedition. I won't be taking out Gruul Turf ever though. It has flat out won me games already. Being able to bounce itself back over and over is amazing for landfall. Pairing it with Amulet of Vigor is just an occasional bonus.

JuQ: Although I do not discourage anyone from running Blade of Selves, I don't think I will myself. I have tested it myself, and there has always been better plays for six mana, and it is to circumstantial on a ton of things going right.

Spoosky: Glad you like the update. Things have been going MUCH better since the last two updates! The power level is back! I have been missing turn two ramp though since I took out Rampant Growth... I really would like to see Three Visits reprinted, or just a new ramps spell for 2-3 cmc!

ScrOuch: I am not a fan of the new Curses to be honest... The red one looks tempting for its cmc, but I is not for me man.

WHyFLy: Welcome to the Om_rath army!!! How have your games been going so far?! I find that I just run everyone over... I only get one game a night in when I go to play commander. I want to keep my friends lol. Although most would not consider this deck Tier 1 because it does not just win of some stupid combo on turn 2-4, I consistently wins within 6 turn, and is normally sooner if I go unchecked. That being said, I love the deck the most because it recovers better then any deck I have played. Someone can counter my "WinCon" and I just go trucking along to victory! Most "Tier 1" decks just pucker out of you get rid of their one or two infinite combo pieces. ( They really just need to ban Doomsday and foodchain already!!!)

lBahamutZeRO: Far Wanderings has come up before... and MAN it is interesting! Early game it is a HORRIBLE ramp spell, and that is what holds me back (that is when you normally want to ramp...).

Kneyo: Shaper's Sanctuary seems pretty interesting! It pretty much reads "Whenever an opponent spot removes Omnath, Locus of Rage draw a card." Although that is not to bad of an ability, I would much rather add another way to protect him if anything, lol. If it said 'player' and not 'opponent', then that would be a whole different story!

It's upsetting, but i may need to completely retool my omnath deck, or retire it. people in my playgroups are far too wary of it's power. omnath himself is the problem because the deck is built to abuse his ability and they know it.

if i were to retool it, I think it would be converted to a proper tribal deck instead of the glass cannon it is now.

feyn_do_alduin, of course, the more powerful a commander the more aware are the others. When that happens you shouldn't give up on your deck but rather try to adapt to their playstyle. When they always remove your commander try to protect him even more. Add cards like Steely Resolve, Eldrazi Monument, Asceticism, Archetype of Endurance, Swiftfoot Boots, Lightning Greaves or Darksteel Plate. If they use artifacts that prevent you from casting him, add more artifact or enchantment removal. And don't cast Omnath as soon as possible but try to wait until you have the cards to protect him.

If you really want to play an elemental tribal, omnath most likely isn't the perfect choice. Animar, Soul of Elements or Horde of Notions are far better for that kind of deck.

feyn_do_alduin: What is the greatest problem you face? We can fix this, lol. There are several Meta cards that I don't have in my build that I could share with you if I knew what the problem was. This is my favorite of 10 decks I own, and I have played it before Om_rath was printed (via proxy). The 'glass cannon' strategy is great in these colors because of all of the 'regernate' and 'cannot counter' effects. My build has also attracted a ton of hate, but that has not stopped me for a second!

How do you deal with the ones likeKaalia of the Vast that usually starts cheating in big demons and angels on turn 4, i played against one and the turn 4 avacyn followed with platinum killed me pretty hard.

What ScrOuch said! Lol

VexenX says... #16

I have a couple Kaalia of the Vast decks in my meta, and I have beaten them into submission so bad that they won't board them against Om_rath lol. Don't get me wrong, the decks are crazy powerful, but all you have to do I get a sack-outlet in play and blow up Kaalia everytime it hits the board. The same can be said for any commander with toughness 3 or less. Haha

September 3, 2017 3:29 p.m.

Crowarden says... #17

well yeah i thought about that but by the time i got omnath on the field my oponnent already had like 2 or 3 enormus creatures in play like Avacyn, Angel of Hope or Iona, Shield of Emeria , im playing your build btw, and also is pretty sick against any other type of deck!. i only have problems against kalia or Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir that practically is 40 counters and 35 lands lol

September 3, 2017 4:02 p.m.

VexenX says... #19

Crowarden: I would recommend lowering your curve a little, adding more early ramp. Kaalia comes out hard and fast. Playing the political game when she is cast is impotent too. Even adding more spot removal is an option. I don't play against her very often anymore, so my list might not be optimal for that match up.

When is comes to counter decks, you likely already know the anti blue cards you could run. Those types of decks have been soft - banned from my meta because no one has fun no matter what side you are on.

September 3, 2017 4:13 p.m.

My main issue is that i'll play omnath, get tokens, then i wait because I don't want to leave myself open since i have no other play.

Usually before the next turn after i generate tokens i suffer a wipe of some sort, or otherwise get pegged with stuff like Overwhelming Splendor and when that happens Karmic Justice is usually in play.

IF i'm patient i can get out of the OS situation by waiting for Wave of Vitriol or World Breaker which allow me to completely bypass Karmic Justice and others like it.

and yeah, spot removal is very prevalent in my meta because they've noticed that i loaded up on anti counter effects.

the other issue is that I'm trying to avoid depowering my deck in an effort to be more defensive. I would also note that I don't have Perilous Forays.

One common issue is that i stall out pretty often without either a draw effect or sac outlet

September 4, 2017 10:49 a.m.

i'm starting to see land destruction lists too

September 4, 2017 11:14 a.m.

I played a few games with Omnath last night with 2 other players (pod of 3 total), and didn't do so hot. Both players were blue (grixis and mono-blue), and played mass bounce spells which don't trigger Omnath's ability. I couldn't find any sac outlets until I was too far behind and one of them comboed off with the Duskcrank combo to kill me around turn 12. I had my pick of what lands were in play, but I've had trouble making sure that I see a sac outlet every game. Is there a red, green, or artifact creature that sacs other creatures that I could tutor up at all?

GeminiSpartanX, I took a look at your Omnath build and to answer your question regarding sac outlets. Maybe consider the following: Greater Good, Altar of Dementia, Phyrexian Altar, Hearthcage Giant or even Seething Pathblazer as options.

Good luck fam!
