Not Dragons? Then DIE! (THS - KTK Standard)

Modern Aggro Dragons Midrange RG (Gruul)

Maybeboard

My current Standard deck. I don't get a chance to play that much, but I've been playing some form of Gruul aggro or Monsters for the last two years, so I've simply kept it up to date. This deck did win my local Dragons of Tarkir Games Day at SCG Hobby Latrobe, so I think it has some merits, but I'm not sure how it can contend with all of the Esper Dragons lists running around now. One thing that has really impressed me is running the full 4 copies of both Goblin Rabblemaster and Courser of Kruphix. Most lists that I've seen have fallen on one side or the other, but having both provides the deck with a sense of dynamic flexibility. I feel like I can shift gears between defense and offense very smoothly with this current build. Not to mention that casting either of those cards on turn 2 (with some help from Elvish Mystic) is absurd!

So the deck went 4-2 today and got 3rd place at Games Day. Only losses were to U/R Ensoul Thopters. Won against Mono Red twice, G/W Aggro and Temur Midrange. I was generally happy with Dragonlord Atarka and Xenagos, God of Revels but I felt that See the Unwritten was not appropriate for the main board. Resolving a See the Unwritten seems to practically win the game on the spot (provided it doesn't whiff or get you two Mystics). However, it is often too slow against both aggro and control opponents (who can simply clean up our awesome board presence with a sweeper). I also really liked Goblin Rabblemaster out of the sideboard. For these reasons I will be moving the Rabblemasters back to the main board and put the Unwrittens in the side board for midrange match ups.
