Background

This used to be curiosity-less wheel effect cEDH style Niv Mizzet the Firemind for many years. However, the release of Niv Mizzet, Parun, really lets one take a more modern and competitive stance on a Niv Mizzet deck that, while still likely not up to Nivix's standards, has its own cool play pattern thanks to Parun's absurd text box.

This is a new build after 7 years using a very different Parun style so feedback would be appreciated!

Gameplan

This deck aims to set up on the first two-three turns using cantrips and artifact tutors to dig out some early mana, with the aim of assembling a fast Isochron - Dramatic Reversal for infinite mana. The deck then wants to cast Parun and dig through the deck, countering threats, until you have enough mana to kill 2 players with Expansion / Explosion, or just kill opponents with Niv triggers. Often you will not being to hit these mana producers as early as this, in which case your aim is to keep crafting your hand and keep counters open to disrupt any early wins your opponents try to commit to.

Notable Exclusions

The old Niv deck used to run Inner Fire, Comet Storm as its main win, but (sadly for nostalgia reasons) these are no longer needed in this build. The old deck tried to get a fat hand, then win, whereas with Parun and isochron scepter/curiosity effects wants to just combo off instantly with disruption to back it up.

This deck is missing a few cards for budgetary reasons, these will be included when/if possible: Volcanic Island, Timetwister (lol), Mox Diamond (increasingly large lol as price rises), Force of Negation.

Changes

07/07/2019 - Paradox Engine banned (probably for the best). Replaced it with Tribute Mage to help secure Isochron combo. Also trying out Narset over Turnabout to see how much she actually interrupts people. 01/10/2019 - Cut some of the more abusable cards or slow cards like Dream Halls, Scroll Rack, Snapcaster, Mission Briefing and Turnabout for protection like Cursed Totem, Grafdigger's Cage and Pyroclasm. Might want to put the first 4 listed back in after testing. This version is more competitive but its less splashy and unique.
